Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop.  My writing prompt today: ~Look into your archives. What were you blogging about a year ago around this time?  Are you still dealing with the same thing? Your thoughts? O.K.  This is so weird.  A year ago, April 25th, I was walking to the check-out line of my neighborhood grocery store when I looked down and saw a one-hundred-dollar bill.  There it was, nicely folded in half, in between the checker and the gum display.  I picked it up and handed it to the checker saying "I know this didn't come out of my wallet".  It was placed in the Lost and Found.   Of course I could use that money.  But, it wasn't mine.  I just couldn't pocket it, my guilt would take away any inkling of joy this money could provide. So here we are, a year later, and I'm walking to my car after a stop at my neighborhood Walgreen's.  The sun is shining, it's a beautiful afternoon and then, what's this?  I spot a pretty wallet layin

Kids See Free

Let’s be honest. It's hard to get children excited about the prospect of wearing glasses. Not only was my 11 year old trying to deal with the fact that she needed glasses but she thought that meant they had to look like her fathers.  No, no they don't. My pink-loving girl finally came around to deciding on her first pair when she spotted a sparkly, bedazzled pair in pink.  I f they find a pair that they love, they will be that much more excited to wear them. Luckily, Coastal.com offers a huge variety of awesome children’s glasses that will fit any budget. Even if your budget is zero dollars! Currently, the company is running a special promotion that will get both parents and children excited about glasses. If you purchase any pair of glasses, you can select free children’s glasses from their ‘kids see free’ category. The glasses feature kid safe durable lenses which can withstand active children’s lives. The lenses offer protective coating to protect the sensiti

When Did That Happen?

Oh my yes.  Yes, I do.

Decorating With Christmas Lights

Christmas time is a wonderful season when many people decorate their houses with beautiful Christmas tree lights. One of our family traditions is to walk around our neighborhood, seeing  how our neighbors are showcasing their holiday arrangements. However you don't have to save your Christmas tree lights for the holiday season alone. They're a fantastic addition to your home decor all year round, especially as a sparkling addition to a summertime patio, arbor or gateway. Many design magazines and television shows, such as the ones featured  in magazines such as Style at Home   showcase a variety of ways you can use Christmas tree lights in your everyday decor, you can see some examples here . During the summer it's a great idea to string your lights outside your patio or a deck, to get that mythical look for a late summer night BBQ. Lights, such as rope lights, can be added with ease to trail along a porch or a railing. These look sweet in basic white but al

What To Use When Google Reader Goes Away

I've been hearing that Google Reader is going away for months.  When I first saw a mention of this, from someone I follow on Twitter, I thought the library of blogs that I follow would be gone and I would need to start all over.  Now, thanks to my blog pal Paula at Sincerely, Paula I've learned about BlogLovin' and this service is happily filling the shoes of Google Reader, which disbands in July. Keep your favorite reads and blog connections with BlogLovin ! Follow my blog with Bloglovin

How To Get A First Date

My husband and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in two months.  When I saw this writing prompt from Mama Kat's Writers Workshop I just had to share this story :-> T ell Us About A Love Story That Makes You Happy: I was on my way to a guys house, someone who was in that grey area of "almost boyfriend", to have one of those wonderful talks, the 'Where-is-this-going?' kind of talk.  We'd made a lunch date and I was a bit early. When I arrived at his door he walked me into the kitchen. I see a girl sitting at his kitchen table with a guy who has a guitar across this lap. (The "guitar guy" and I had met recently.  I was waiting for my bus with our mutual friend, the grey area guy.  "Guitar Guy" shook my hand and I felt some kind of electric charge - I really did.)  Guitar Guy looks up at me, has a bit of a smirk, and says "Hi".   The four of us sit around the kitchen table not saying much. I'm to

Support Group For Actor's Spouses

(A while back I wrote a post on how I felt being the wife of an actor.  Foremost I have great pride in my husband and enjoy watching him perform.  I know how much he loves the art of acting, it is his passion and I wouldn't want him to stop for anything, it's just that there are acting jobs that call for um... intimacy  on occasion and that can be very tough to accept. This  little post generated a great response from those that are in the same boat as I am.   It sounds like we need a support group.) There seems to be a support group for just about everything these days.  You've got your tried-and-true AA and your NA (Narcotics Anonymous).  You can find support for parenting and even for vegetarianism.  (It's true.  I went to a site and it seems that some feel nagged a lot by their parents for possibly being anemic.  Hmmm.) I think I need to start a support group.  Nothing heavy, nothing worth bringing a box of tissues to, it's just that my husband is an actor an

It's Good! I Like It!

For Mama Kat's (Pretty Much World Famous) Writer's Workshop I've chosen the writing prompt: Something New You've Tried: My husband loves Sushi.  I enjoy it on occasion, however my husband loves sushi and has said he could eat it every day.  Each time I join him at our neighborhood sushi place I dare myself to try the eel (a.k.a. Unagi), but it's just not working well for me.   When it comes to trying Sake (rice wine) that seems to be an easier go for me.  Recently I had plum sake and it was not only delightfully served, but it tasted delightful as well.   Best served cold, with many flavors being discovered with little sips.  And in the immortal words of my aunt Joan who, while on a wine tasting afternoon in glorious France, after her fourth of fifth glass, said "It's good!  I like it!"  Plum Sake.  It's good!  I like it! Tuesday Truth or Dare - Chocolate? I'll Pass

When I hear women go absolutely crazy over chocolate I smile, nod and wonder... 'why'? When I see a funny quip about women's love for shoes I smile, nod and think, 'I have to wear them, and that's why I buy them.' I'm sure, when I was younger, I enjoyed chocolate.  But it just doesn't get me now.  I mean, I don't crave it.  I could be so-o-o-o-o hungry and chocolate could be the only thing in the cupboard and I do believe I would pass it by.  But it seems like I'm the only woman around who feels this way. It's like I'm missing a Woman+Chocolate DNA link or something. Honestly I ask, what's the deal with chocolate? Now shoes.  Shoes are a clothing item that is a necessity for most parts of the United States.  (I haven't visited Hawaii yet but I have a vision that you walk around bare foot with flowers in your hair.)  I need to protect my feet, so I buy shoes.  I'm 5'10", and have been since I was around 14 years

Getting You On Your Way

There are many choices when it comes to purchasing car insurance that it’s helpful when you find a resource that will help your discern the difference between options.  One company sounds like it has all you need but perhaps you’re thrown by what appears to be cheap auto insurance and you can’t believe the offer.  Then you read another description, and another and another and you can get easily confused.   It doesn't need to be confusing; sometimes what appears to be cheap car insurance is actually just a really good deal. When you visit the website of www.locatecheapinsur.com they can help you find the right insurance that will fit your financial situation and get you on your way to being a more secure, responsible driver.  They guide you through steps of comparing auto insurance prices in your area and they offer on-line help to answer any questions that can arise from your research.  Fault, or No-Fault insurance? Mandate? Liability?  These are terms that most of us don’
