Keep Your Head Up - It's Time For A Game at The Virtual Girls Night Out!

Last weekend I was in the Napa Valley, sipping wine in the warm sunshine and enjoying every second of that glorious place.  Have you been?  Entering this weekend I am in the sunshine, yes.  But warm?  Nope.  Not at all.  The last few mornings I've been scrapping ice of the car windows and shaking my head when I read the temperature of 21 degrees.  Huh?  What's up Portland?!  How's the weather where you are?  Let's get going with our Virtual Girls Night Out and never mind the weather. To participate In The Virtual GNO:   Enjoy this post!  ;-> For our weekly Friday night blog party all you need to make this party complete is a beverage of your choice (cocktail recipe below for inspiration) and your fuzzy slippers! If you choose to participate with the meme and/or game leave your blog link for guests to visit you! I started this blog party in 2008 and bloggers have been virtually partying ever since.   Visit your fellow party guests - say "Happy VGNO!!!"

Renewing My Spirit At Inglenook - #WordlessWednesday

Not only is this Wordless Wednesday, I'm also going to call it "Where I Wish I Was Wednesday" !  The Napa Valley. (This post is in no way wordless ;-> ) My husband Rob and I were lucky enough to spend last weekend in the treasure that is the Napa Valley. (See: Where We Spent Our Weekend Away ).  Have you been there?  We visit as often as possible to renew our spirit - and enjoy spirits :->  When we first discovered our favorite location it was called Niebaum-Coppola Winery, located in Rutherford, CA owned by Frances Ford Coppola.  The incredibly gorgeous building held artifacts from Coppola films, including Rob's treasured movie "The Godfather", and showcased historical items important to film making. The winery became a bit circus like, the focus wasn't on the wine basically, but that has changed.  The winery is back to its original name Inglenook , the grounds are quieter, and the movie props have been moved to the Francis Ford Cop

Where We Spent Our Weekend Away

Starting The Week Off... with memories of a great weekend getaway! When we get the chance to "run away from home" Rob and I love visiting the Napa Valley.  I was able to join him while he was at his company's headquarter's in Northern California on Friday and head up to Napa.  I don't like to fly but, if the Napa Valley is the destination, I'll do it. And oh man!  While Rob and I are trying to find each other at the airport he texted that he thought he was looking at Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters / Nirvana).  So, when I spotted Rob outside he smiled and pointed toward a tall, dark haired guy who was deep into his phone.  I walked slowly, slowly then stopped right in front of him.  He glanced up, smiled and said "Hey".  Yay!  It was Dave!  I said 'Hi' back then added 'my family loves you!'  (Katie and Lily are very familiar with "Learn To Fly" from Rock Band and love the video too.)  Dave said "Cool!" and smiled

The House Is Quiet

Trying to put into words my feelings on losing a pet is difficult.  I keep editing myself. I sound stupid. I sound heartless. I sound ridiculous. Being outside is better.  Being away from the house it's much easier to mentally deal with the loss of our sweet Maddy because that's not where my memories of her are held.  However, I work from my home, the home that has tumbleweeds of cat hair and... it... feels... empty.  The house is quiet. I shake my brain out of sadness by saying 'It was a cat.  It was a cat for crying out loud!  What's the matter with you?!'  But this cat was a part of my life every-single-day for the past (almost) eighteen years.  This little furry being was part of my every day - and night (that darn night singing! ;-> ). It's worse for me today because Rob's at the office and the girls are at school.  Benny is sniffing for his furry cat sister and I... I... all I can do is pet him and love him and say 'Things have ch

Goodbye Maddy

Starting The Week Off ...  with a deep breath. Our dear Maddy passed late Saturday night.  If you have/had pets I'm sure you know what we're going through.  It's been very tough to hear our girls deal with this loss.  Such tender hearts, they love their pets. Lots of hugs and tissues.   A year ago it was Phoebe and now her kitty sister Maddy has joined her.  Frolic in the fields dear felines! No more pain.  Thank you for the cuddles, the purrs and the companionship.

My Heart Hurts

Here we go again. Our dear cat Maddy, who would be 19 years old later this month, is beginning her trip over The Rainbow Bridge .  (Thanks for telling me about that poem Martha.) October of last year her sister Phoebe passed (Read:  " A Sister Stands Vigil ") and now we see Maddy is ready.  She's curled up on the couch, on a spot that's usually ours, and we're comforting her as much as we can. I've had her in my life for a long time. My heart hurts.

Good Thing I Didn't Park There!

It was a typical drizzly morning in Portland.  After I took my girls to school Benny, our trusty Chocolate Lab, and I went for a walk through Pier Park: The wind started to pick-up and the rain drops were becoming louder on the fallen leaves: Little neglected shack in the park.  Curious. After a few minutes the sweet sounding raindrops were hitting pretty hard so we took refuge under a pine.  These rain showers usually pass quickly however... after watching leaves streaming from their branches and other dogs and their people high-tailing it out of the park I thought we should follow suit.  Made it back, soaking wet: Right after I took this picture this fell right behind our van: Good thing I didn't park there! And here we are, a couple of hours later, and it looks like this: Never a dull moment with Portland Fall weather! Crazy wind - pounding rain - and now the lovely sunshine.  How's your weather? ;->

Sprucing Up - #WordlessWednesday

Refreshing my Fall shade.  (I call it Red). Do you have "mood hair"?  Do you change it up with the seasons?

Name 3 Famous People You'd Like To Have Dinner With - Virtual Girls Night Out Time!

We survived our sugar fueled Halloween night and I do believe the girls had their sugar crash last night.  At 6:30pm Lily was ready for a shower then headed to bed.  Wow.  Katie did stay up a bit longer to watch Grimm with us (filmed my town - Portland, OR  whoop! whoop!) but then she was done.  I'm late to create our VGNO but hey! Better late than never, right? :->  Let's start our Virtual Girls Night Out!
