Can You Guess This Cover Boy?

You think your dentist has old magazines in the Waiting Room?  They have nothing on beach houses on the Oregon Coast. Over the years we've found McCall's, House Beautiful and Coastal Living from publishing dates in the 90's.  Here's our recent find that tops them all, in my opinion.  Can you guess who the "cover boy" is? O.K.   This could be any guy. Now, who were the popular cuties in this era?  Again, it could be anyone.  (And if you weren't born yet, be quiet and go play with something electronic.) Do you remember this magazine?  The editor was Jane Pratt who went on to have a talk show in 1993.  She is having a fascinating career, definitely worth looking her up. O.K.  This next one just might give it away.  But... the eyes kind of look like another strapping young man around this time.  Curious, curious...? Do you know who it is??? Did you guess... Robert Downey, Jr. ! I

It's Here. It Really Is

It started with the commercial for The Chillow .  A pillow that is chilled to "help you feel like you're in a cool oasis".  I saw that commercial and said, 'I'd like that'.  It was then that I fully realized the swirling thoughts in my head weren't just fleeting conversations with myself, they were my mind finally telling me what my body has been showing me for months.  The time had come.  Or, bet yet, the "change" had come. It doesn't matter what age you are, it can happen in your 30's, 40's or 50's.  Your body says - Surprise! You're a walking furnace now!  Some moments you're going to be a comfortable temperature and some moments (for me now it's at night) you are going to be your own sauna.   And everything you've heard, everything you've read is true.  Even though I've listened and read it's still so very weird to actually experience it.  Kind of like eating oysters. For more than half

Experiencing Is Believing. Are You Ready For This Cottonelle Experience?

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Cottonelle. When does potty training end?  On some laundry days I feel it never does.  You get where I'm going with this, right?  My family is all old enough to take care of themselves.  They have been taught how to: pick-up after themselves, tie their shoes, ride a bike, make a meal and use a computer.  (I can't take credit for teaching my husband, he was good to go by the time I met him.)   So why, oh why, with some areas of personal care, are certain things being overlooked?  Only to be found by me in the laundry room?!  People please!   Talking about bathroom habits can be embarrassing but you may be missing out on a better way to get clean. That’s why Cottonelle is partnering with Cherry Healey to get people to talk about the way they wipe.     Visit the  Cottonelle Facebook Group  to see how Cherry does asking strangers "Do you know what these are?" . The education is continuing because I'm

It's Virtual Girls Night Out! Have You Heard The One About Bill Clinton and Blurred Lines?

We have one week of Summertime left until our girls return to school.  I don't know where the Summer went.  I really don't.  Last year I was so good about planning our activities and, I think, we had a great "Stay-cation" in our corner of the world - Portland, OR.  The beautiful Pacific Northwest.  But this Summer, although we've been able to go places and see things, it just feels different.  I feel different.  I'm tired, I'm not focused.  I'm stressed about my girls media time and berate myself every time I see a blog post or Pinterest tip on "Great Kids Activities". My girls are 15 and 12.  For the years that I have spent being Julie The Cruise Director ("Love Boat" reference for all you young-in's out there.  Google it.) I should be able to relax a bit and enjoy the fact that my craft box is filled with instruments made of paper plates and toilet paper rolls, nature journals, recipes to make home-made ice cream and your

My Sixth Grade Teacher and The Great Outdoors

I'm participating in Mama Kat's (Pretty Much World Famous)  Writers Workshop .  My writing prompt: "Your sixth grade teacher" During my sixth grade year (1978) my parents were divorcing.  There wasn't any trauma as far as who I would live with, I was in the home that I grew up in with my mom and my sister and nothing much changed with my day-to-day routine.  There was one trait that I picked up that wasn't easy and that was never wanting to leave my mom.  When she would get ready for work I remember sitting on the edge of her bed, watching her put on make-up with the help of her GE Lighted Vanity Mirror (day - office - home - evening.  Which will it be?) and asking, 'Can I go to work with you?  I can help you!'.  Her stock answer "School is your work.  You're going to school."   Even though my routine didn't change - school/home/play outside/dinner - my life was changing, people were leaving and I didn't like this feel

The Kindness of Dogs and Cats

Benny and Maddy Since Maddy's sweet sister Phoebe crossed The Rainbow Bridge in October (Read: " A Sister Stands Vigil ") it seems that Benny has been making every effort to let Maddy know she's not alone.  After 17 years of having your sister around I'm sure it's quite an adjustment to friend your huge "brother".  However, they have lived together for a few years and she gets more comfortable every day.

What John Hughes Summer Did You Have? Share At The Virtual Girls Night Out!

We have two weeks left in our Summer break from school and, although I absolutely love being able to sleep in, I am out of ideas (and energy) for activities.  Leaving my girls to their own devices literally turns them to their "devices".  DS, Kindle, laptops.  Ugh.  Go outside and play for crying out loud!  Well, here I am, complaining about my girls concentrating on technology when I'm at my laptop.  (tee hee)  Let's forget the double standard for tonight and get our Virtual Girls Night Out on!  Check out the party question below :-> For our weekly Friday night blog party all you need to make this party complete is to grab a beverage of your choice (cocktail recipe below for inspiration) and get cozy!
