How We Spent Our Snow Storm

How We Spent Our Snow Storm - Ann Again and again

After weeks of our girls looking out the window and pleading for snow, it finally arrived on Thursday.  Our city of Portland reacts with caution when it snows so we were notified that we could pick-up our children from school early if we felt nervous about the conditions.  Seeing as how I am not a seasoned driver in the snow our daughter's were pretty darn happy when they got out at noon.

And they weren't the only ones ;->

This was Benny's second run in the snow for the afternoon so I caught him a little tuckered out.

After hours of snow fall there was a perfect amount to start a friendly snowball fight.  Cars were still slipping on the street we live on, one almost took out one of our trees, so the driveway was the place to play.

Watching the fun from the coziness of the living room window Katie couldn't take it any more and ran out to make a snow angel.  No coat, light weight pants and tennis shoes.  Ahh, the excitement at 16!

Time to head to the backyard and gather some wood for the fireplace.  I love the quiet that comes with snow fall.  Especially how it makes our normally evergreen trees and bare Winter branches become a soft, beautiful vision in white.

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!)

Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story:

I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair, my hair style was a nightmare.
My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogrammed, Al…

How to Find the Safest Gear for your Baby

Nothing compares to the joys of being a parent. Having a newborn in the family brings couples closer and makes the entire household more cheerful and interesting. But as we all know, being a parent is not just about spending time with your baby. More than anything else, it also requires exerting a lot of effort to make sure that your baby is always safe and free from potential hazards. To further help you in this endeavor, here are some useful tips for finding the safest gear for your baby as you go through various baby product guides:

Opt for a non-toxic gear. The first thing you need to check is the composition of the safety gear. What is the material made from? Is it non-toxic? Be sure that it is because babies have a strong tendency to put everything they see or touch in their mouths. It goes without saying that a safety gear that is made from toxic materials could poison your baby, in the long run, so be very careful about the safety gears you purchase.
Make sure it is sturdy. The …

Water is an essential element that everyone needs for drinking, washing, and thriving. Many people don’t take the time to think about the quality of their water in their home. If your water quality is poor, that may have an impact on your health and your family’s well being. Whether you get your water from a well or your city’s water service, it’s important to think about its quality. Here are 6 actions you can take to help improve your water’s quality.
1. Test Your Water
It’s a smart idea to periodically test your water. If you are purchasing a new home, building new construction, or signing a new lease for an apartment or condo, make sure you test your water before moving in. There are inexpensive home water testing kits you can easily complete yourself. Home testing kits can give you a better idea of the chemical concentration of your water and whether or not there are any contaminants in your tap.
