We Participated In The Color Run! Thanks For Getting Us There Chevy!

The Color Run Portland - Chevy Cruze - Ann Again and again
Dance party after the finish line!

What an experience!  If The Color Run holds an event in your area do yourself a favor and participate.  They claim it to be "The Happiest 5K on the planet" and I will say I was pretty darn happy in the beginning, struggling but still smiling in the middle, and filled with relief and happiness at the end and surrounded by others who seemed to feel the same way.

Rob and I after crossing the finish line

Rob and I took an eco friendly drive to The Color Run in a 2014 Chevy Cruze.  This is a smooth, zippy ride with plenty of room for our two girls as well.  Rob likes to drive to talk radio but I'm a superstar singer in the car so I've been enjoying the Sirius XM radio experience - so many channels!  (Review about our car experience here:  Ann Again and again Reviews.)

Before - Note the clean faces

We arrived at a very busy P.I.R. = Portland International Raceway, and saw teams in tutu's, groups in fairy wings and those that were fond of colorful socks.  Hey, whatever makes the run more fun sounds good to me!  The Color Run features a different charity at each city and this year Portland's featured The Global Poverty Project and Global Citizen.  They are  a place to learn, act and bring an end to extreme poverty. More information found at

Last year The Color Run in Portland had over 15,000 participants! (We don't know the final numbers yet for this year because, get this, their computer crashed at the event.  So we signed in the old fashioned way, pen and paper.  Numbers to come.)

Rob and Ann -  suited up!
I'm not really a runner so I was a bit anxious.   I can jog for about a block then the only thing that could keep me running would be if something were chasing me.  This is a family friendly event, walkers are welcome, and I knew I could keep up with a group of 5 year old's I spotted.  On to the Starting Line!

The music was blasting and our hosts/DJ's were doing a terrific job of getting us excited.  Lots of pre-race dancing, jumping and some sneaky ones who starting throwing their colored corn starch.  Too soon!  Too soon!  My mouth was open!

When we arrived at the finish line (a very welcome sight) the sun was shining, we grabbed some energy bars and delicious iced tea and were drawn to the stage - the music was blasting for everyone to gather, throw their color in the air and dance.  It was a beautiful sight!

The Color Run was so much fun!  It was definitely out of my comfort zone - I don't run, I don't like being dirty - but hearing from past participants about how fun it was drew me to the event and I am so, so glad we went!  And yes, I'm thinking we should do this again.

Driving home - after being blasted with a leaf blower we still had color clinging.  Whee!

Until next year!

My Biggest Regret In High School - Care To Share Yours?

Ah yes... I remember it well... unfortunately...   (~~~~trip back to 1980~~~~) High School. To paraphrase Dickens, "It was the best of times, it was the most-hair-style-challenged of times".  I remember a picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair,  the hair , my  hairstyle was a nightmare.  My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district, that was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well since this school was known for the preppiness that was sweeping the John Hughes lovin' nation.  "K." was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. "W." was going for 'All Monogrammed, All The Time" and I was going to ditch the bell-bottoms, wear Levi's and have the hairstyle of my dreams.   I have straight, thick hair and had always wanted curly hair. When I would see girls with curly hair they always seemed so a
