Virtual Girls Night Out - Pass The Cookies!

I just don't think my jeans can be stretched any further.  I hear my body saying, 'No more Christmas cookies Ann.  No more baked goodies of any kind, pretty please?'  But come on!  Did you see the Baklava that our friends made just for us?  It would be insulting to pass that up!  Well... ditch the jeans, grab the sweat pants - and a big slice of pie - and let's enjoy our Virtual Girls Night Out!

  1. 3/4 cup sugar
  2. 3/4 cup water
  3. 1 1/2 cups packed mint leaves, plus 12 mint sprigs, for garnish

  5. 2 cups light rum
  6. Cracked ice
  7. 3 cups Champagne or sparkling wine
Directions:

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and water and cook over high heat just until the sugar has dissolved. Let cool to room temperature. In a large pitcher, combine the sugar syrup with the mint leaves and lime wedges and muddle well with a wooden spoon. Add the rum and stir well. Strain the drink into another pitcher.   Fill tall glasses with cracked ice and pour in the drink, filling them about two-thirds full. Top with Champagne, garnish with the mint sprigs and serve.

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
