Oh No You DIDN'T! Time To Rant

Time to rant!

While I was so happy with the progress I had made with my daily errands and projects I was slugged right in the gut when I went to pick-up my girls from school.  Gone was my "Happiest Place On Earth" vacation daze.  Welcome back to "MOM!  How could you?? I don't want to speak to you!" daughter's mantra.

Ugh.

O.K. now.  I empathize with not wanting to care and feed for your recent brood of kittens that your cat surprised you with.  I get being done with the sleepless nights and constant caring of the tiny 'meows'.  But dear fellow parent at our child's school, I honestly have to say, what the hell were you thinking by bringing your box full of kittens with a "Free" sign to the pick-up area at school today?  How could you???

I left my parked car and walked down the sidewalk to see my girls jumping all over the place, screaming for me to "hurry up!".  Ahhh.  Isn't that nice?  They've missed me on their first day back from vacation.

When I met up with them I am attacked with the cuteness of kittens and the teary eyes of my daughters saying "Please mom?  Ple-e-e-e-ase???"  'What the hell?'  And, 'Where's the parent that's done this?' are my thoughts.  Then, I see it.  'Is that an orange kitty I see?'  "YES!" scream my girls, knowing that I've been wanting an orange tabby for quiet some time.

Now the thing is, we already have 2 cats.  Yes they are almost 16 years old, but they are here, they need food, and cleaning-up after and vet visits.  None of these things are cheap and the last thing we need are more kittens in the house.  Not now, not yet.

After my Cute-Kitty-Hypnosis wore off I told my girls that this just wasn't the right time to get a kitten.  Oh LORD!  Did I just tell them that their World has ended?  You would have thought so if you had been there.  And it lasted for hours and hours.  (It's still not over, I'm sure.)

So, dear fellow parent at our children's school, if you ever need anything... go ask somebody else.  (And I will gladly share what I know of Santa Claus and The Tooth Fairy with your children if given the chance.)

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
