My Story And A Song, "Romeo & Juliet"

"Romeo & Juliet" by Dire Straits - I had never heard this song before 1992. I was on my way to a, well, I'll just call him a 'boyfriends' house to have one of those wonderful talks. The 'Where-is-this-going?' kind of thing. Yuck.

As he walks me from the front door into the kitchen I see a girl sitting at the table with a guy who has a guitar. The "guitar guy" looks at me and says "hi". (He's super-duper cute and has an acoustic guitar. Melt my heart.)  We had meet once before, while I was waiting for my bus and our mutual friend was waiting with me.  "Guitar Guy" shook my hand and I felt some kind of electric charge - I really did.

The four of us sit around the kitchen table not saying much. I'm totally confused because I thought it was understood I was coming over around this time to have a talk. Why is this other couple here?  The guy I came to see explains that he needs to learn how to play guitar for a role in a play, hence the friend with the guitar is here to teach him. Nice, I'm thinking. But why is his girlfriend here too?  At this point the girl says "Well, I should be going." And my guy says "I'll walk you out." I'm so-o-o confused!!! Why is my guy walking Guitar Guy's date to the door? Why isn't he.... ooh.... she isn't Guitar Guy's girlfriend. She's my guys girl. And she's obviously slept-over.

All of this is running around my brain when Guitar Guy starts playing a song. I hadn't heard it before but it's beautiful. When the song is over I smiled but he didn't even look at me. Or talk to me. It's just the two of us sitting there listening to the coffee pot grumble. What?!?

When my guy comes back I'm so appalled, embarrassed, and just so-o-o over this that I can't even look at him.  Guitar Guy starts playing another song, this one is "To Turn You On" by Roxy Music. THIS song I know. And at this point, I realize that Guitar Guy isn't just randomly choosing songs, he's playing to me. He's singing to me. My head, and heart started to explode!

And that's how Guitar Guy wooed me.  That first song he played? "Romeo & Juliet".

There is so much more to this story, of course... ;->

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
