Over the years I've heard plenty of song lyrics that I just can not make out. There are certain singers in particular that I just kind of give up and go with the flow of the tune. (I absolutely and completely gave up on trying to understand Natalie Merchant (from 10,000 Manics and her solo career).
Today at lunch Elton John and Bernie Taupin's tune "Yellow Brick Road" came on the radio and I told my husband Rob that I couldn't understand half of what he was singing. Sharing what I was hearing was getting a chuckle and he tried to decipher some words for me but really, I kind of like what I have goin' on.

When are you goin’ to come down? When are you going to
land? I should have stayed on the farm,
I should have listened to my-oh-my.
You know you can’t hope forever. I didn’t sign up for you. I’m not a present for your friends to
open. This boy’s too young to be singin' the bluuuuuuuuuues.
Ahhh ahh ahhh ahhh ahhh
Ahh ahhh ahhhh Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
So good bye Yellow Brick Road where the dogs of society
howl. You can’t plat me in your plat
haaus. I’m going back to my plow.
Back to the hauuve of ow in the woods. Button the howie blaa-toe.
Oh I finally decided my future lies beyond the yellow brick
Rooooooad.
Ahhh ahh ahhh ahhh ahhh
Ahh ahhh ahhhh Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
What do you think you do then? A bemp a ship down the plain?
Can I take you a couple of hours ark tonics to set you on your feet again?
Maybe you’ll get a replacement. There’s plenty like me to be found. Mongrels who ain’t got a penny. Steffin for tickets like you. On the groooooouund.
Ahhh ahh ahhh ahhh ahhh
Ahh ahhh ahhhh Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
So goodbye yellow brick road. Where the dogs of society
howl. You can’t plat me in your
penthouse. I’m going back to my
plow.
Back to the hauuve of ow in the
woods. Button the howie blaa-toe.
Oh I’ve
finally decided my future lies beyond the yellow brick rooooooaad.
Ahhh ahh ahhh ahhh ahhh
