We Participated In The Color Run! Thanks For Getting Us There Chevy!

Dance party after the finish line!

What an experience!  If The Color Run holds an event in your area do yourself a favor and participate.  They claim it to be "The Happiest 5K on the planet" and I will say I was pretty darn happy in the beginning, struggling but still smiling in the middle, and filled with relief and happiness at the end and surrounded by others who seemed to feel the same way.

Rob and I after crossing the finish line

Rob and I took an eco friendly drive to The Color Run in a 2014 Chevy Cruze.  This is a smooth, zippy ride with plenty of room for our two girls as well.  Rob likes to drive to talk radio but I'm a superstar singer in the car so I've been enjoying the Sirius XM radio experience - so many channels!  (Review about our car experience here:  Ann Again and again Reviews.)

Before - Note the clean faces

We arrived at a very busy P.I.R. = Portland International Raceway, and saw teams in tutu's, groups in fairy wings and those that were fond of colorful socks.  Hey, whatever makes the run more fun sounds good to me!  The Color Run features a different charity at each city and this year Portland's featured The Global Poverty Project and Global Citizen.  They are  a place to learn, act and bring an end to extreme poverty. More information found at GlobalCitizen.org.

Last year The Color Run in Portland had over 15,000 participants! (We don't know the final numbers yet for this year because, get this, their computer crashed at the event.  So we signed in the old fashioned way, pen and paper.  Numbers to come.)

Rob and Ann -  suited up!
I'm not really a runner so I was a bit anxious.   I can jog for about a block then the only thing that could keep me running would be if something were chasing me.  This is a family friendly event, walkers are welcome, and I knew I could keep up with a group of 5 year old's I spotted.  On to the Starting Line!

The music was blasting and our hosts/DJ's were doing a terrific job of getting us excited.  Lots of pre-race dancing, jumping and some sneaky ones who starting throwing their colored corn starch.  Too soon!  Too soon!  My mouth was open!

When we arrived at the finish line (a very welcome sight) the sun was shining, we grabbed some energy bars and delicious iced tea and were drawn to the stage - the music was blasting for everyone to gather, throw their color in the air and dance.  It was a beautiful sight!

The Color Run was so much fun!  It was definitely out of my comfort zone - I don't run, I don't like being dirty - but hearing from past participants about how fun it was drew me to the event and I am so, so glad we went!  And yes, I'm thinking we should do this again.

Driving home - after being blasted with a leaf blower we still had color clinging.  Whee!

Until next year!

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
