We've been back from vacation for almost a week and oh boy, do we miss it.  So great to have a break, so wonderful to be able to drive a few hours and be in a completely different atmosphere.  LOVE Central Oregon!  Have you been able to have a break yet?  Well, if not, how about we have a little one now at the Virtual Girls Night Out?!

For our weekly Friday night blog party all you need to make this party complete is to grab a beverage of your choice (cocktail recipe below for inspiration) and your fuzzy slippers! If you choose to leave your link to participate in a blog hop please do! I started this blog party in 2008 and bloggers have been virtually partying ever since.  To participate In The Virtual GNO:  Enjoy this post!  Or, if you would like, link up your blog below and visit your fellow party guests - say "Happy VGNO!!!"  Share the blog game/meme on your site to play along.  Also, I have a great Giveaway right... over...HERE.

Time For Some Tunes!

The Sunday's "Summertime"

I've been going through a late '80's / '90's alt music phase this Summer. The Smiths, The Psychedelic Furs, Cocteau Twins.  Ah, youth.  (For those of you who say "That's before my time" - aah, yeah.  How nice for you.)  What were you listening to in the '90's?

Time For A Cocktail!

  • 1/2 cup(s) fresh or frozen raspberries for garnish
  • 2 cup(s) cranberry-raspberry juice
  • 2 cup(s) seltzer
  • 2 tablespoon(s) lime juice, plus 4 wedges for garnish
  • 6 ounce(s) (3/4 cup) vodka

Directions
  1. If using fresh raspberries, freeze them in a single layer for about 1 hour (or overnight) before proceeding with Step 2.
  2. Combine cranberry-raspberry juice, seltzer, lime juice, and vodka in a pitcher. Divide among 4 ice-filled glasses. Garnish with frozen raspberries and lime wedges.

Sounds delightful.  Cheers!

Time For Some Knowledge!

For those of you who don't know how to create a "cent" symbol when you're writing about prices, etc. I've found out how to do it!  Well, I found out for Microsoft Windows.  (If you're an Apple user - time to search!).  Here's the formula: Push your Num Lock button.  While holding down the Alt key push the numbers 0162 then voila!  A little cent symbol appears. (Num Lock + Alt key + 0162 = ¢).

I hope you enjoy your Virtual GNO everyone! I think I'll try to find my Walkman and play some tapes.  My girls will be so-o-o-o confused ;-> . Thanks for stopping by.  Cheers!

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
