Virtual Girls Night Out - Happy First Day Of Summer

Ann Again and again Friday Night Party -- Virtual GNO

Happy first official day of Summer!  My husband thoroughly enjoys Shakespeare and will be watching a performance of A Midsummer Nights Dream which begins at dusk as part of a Solstice celebration.  Our 15 yrs. old Katie wants to go as well, but I'm not so sure about myself.  It's enough for me to get through Shakespeare at an 8:00 performance but, by 10:00, I'm almost ready for bed!  Oh we'll see.  Let's get our Virtual Girls Night Out blog hop going!

For our weekly Friday night blog hopping party all you need to make this party complete is to grab a beverage of your choice (cocktail recipe below for inspiration) and your fuzzy slippers!  I started this blog party in 2008 and bloggers have been virtually partying ever since.  All You Do To participate In The Virtual GNO:  Link up your blog below and visit your fellow party guests - say "Happy VGNO!!!"  Share the blog game/meme on your site to play along.

Time For Some Tunes!

I was contacted by independent recording artist Johnathan Celestin who shared a bit of his story with me, along with his music.  I love music, and support independent, so take a listen to Johnathan's latest release below:

Time For A Question!

Have you ever brought something to a Pot Luck/Bar-B-Que only to see that no one was eating it? Man! I tried this recipe for, what was supposed to be, a great cranberry relish with fresh orange rind and some other sweet, cool stuff. It was supposed to go with the Host's main dish of Chicken. Well, let's just say my bowl of red goo just sat on the table. My husband was a trooper and had a few spoonfuls to make me feel better. Yes, I taste-tested it before we left. I thought it was good. Whatever.

What about you? Have you been the one that brought the dish that nobody ate?  What was it?

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
