Shopping? Or Left Overs? That Is The Question

Oh my.

I was so wiped out from hosting the family Thanksgiving dinner that yesterday I was in my pajamas until 3 in the afternoon!  We were ALL in our pajamas until 3 in the afternoon.

Rob does such a spectacular job with cooking the turkey, the stuffing's (1 sausage, 1 oyster) and delicious mashed potatoes while I get the house ready with cleaning and decorating.  Our house is so tiny I can't imagine how I would do with a larger house.  (But I'm willing to try!)

In years past I've headed out on Black Friday with gift ideas in mind. This year however, I found ways to take it easy using my handy-dandy iPhone, and with a on-line coupon site that will not only help me save money, but provide meals for those in need at the same time.  Terrific!

To begin, I downloaded an app that will help me find the best deals for just about everything on my list, Black Friday or not.  (Have I mentioned how much I love my iPhone ;-> )

RetailMeNot:

With the app RetailMeNot, available for iPhone and Android, you will find the best deals at all of your favorite stores.  Target, Bath and Body Works, Aeropostale, Kohl's.  The list goes on and on.  With the use of this app you have the ability to save big right at your finger tips.  And a great thing is, the RetailMeNot app is free!  They also show savings for restaurants, museums and hair salons. So while you're out and about and need a point in the "saving direction" use the app RetailMeNot.

Save1.com:

With the on-line coupon site Save1.com use one of their coupon offers from over 30 categories and help a hungry child at the same time.  Save1.com provides offers ranging from apparel to groceries to travel to weddings and many things in between! Save1 receives a commission and with a portion of that money they provide a meal for a hungry child through a feeding partner. To this date they have provided over 95,000 meals.  Save1.com is a site to bookmark on your toolbar.

Since my girls didn't have their Wish List organized by Black Friday I didn't feel like roaming the malls and knew I could find good deals another day.  I've never been one to stand in line for the insane early bird deals, too stressful.  My mom and I would head out around 7:00 or 8:00 am, like civilized crazy shoppers, and join the masses in the parking lots.

Every year we would do our best not to get angry at someone who made a poor choice like; taking a parking spot that we had been waiting for or, taking the whole stack of towels or board games and dumping them in their cart while we stood watching with our mouths open at the GALL of taking them all.  Did they really need all of those games?

Oh well.  Not this year.  I just couldn't bring myself to deal with Black Friday shopping.  I just needed to stay in my p.j.'s and remember the wonderful day I spent with my wonderful family.  (And eat the rest of my sister's delicious fruit salad that she so generously left behind.)

So, what about you?  Did you brave the holiday shopping crowds?  Or did you stay home, eat leftovers and know that you will still find saving another day, like me? ;->

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
