Virtual Girls Night Out - Keep Your Head Up

This time last year we had a string of events that really knocked the wind from my sails.  I've always had a glimmer of hope that things were going to go in a positive direction but all of the sudden little bits kept happening that were negative situations and I was losing not only sense of humor, but my hope.  I'm sensitive (I'm a Cancer/Moon Child.  Born in July.  I know that's one of our traits ;-> ) and I take things very personally.  Ugh.

But wait!  What's this??  Am I starting to see a bit of hope returning??? Well, maybe.  I still stress over low-to-no funds in the ol' bank account, it keeps me up and wakes me when I do sleep.  But that glimmer is beginning to return.  I can feel it :->  Let's celebrate positive thinking at this weeks Virtual Girls Night Out!

*The VGNO blog-hop is for those who want to party "virtually" with other bloggers. Add your blog link to the link-up below, get on your fuzzy slippers, make yourself a cocktail, visit those that have left their blog link and have fun! Happy VGNO!*

Time For The Traveling Heart-Shaped Rock Project Part 3!

Can you believe the Traveling Heart-Shaped Rock Project was started 2 years ago? Wow. I can't. We've had two of our "little gems" lost along the way. (Probably the same place matching socks in the dryer vanish to, I don't know.) Since blog pal interest is still strong, I've restarted the "Traveling Heart-Shaped Rock Project" yet again! There are 21 stops so far :-> For those that don't know what it's all about (or for those that are on the list but need a refresher) here's the idea:

While on the Oregon Coast I found this "little gem" and decided I didn't want its journey to end. 'Why not' I thought 'share this symbol with my blog pals?' So, here we are! Want to take part in this blog-hopping photo project? Here's what you do:

*E-mail your name & address to annharrison@comcast.net. I will add your destination to the list. Once you receive the little heart-shaped gem...

*Take a picture of it with something that represents you; it could be an object, a place, whatever you like.

*Then... post the picture on your blog; let your readers know you are participating in The Traveling Heart-Shaped Rock Project.

*Let me know when you receive our little gem; I'll send you the name & address of the next blogger to mail the rock to.

*At the end of it's journey I'll create a slideshow of your pics.

I know that some bloggers plan on sending the "gem" on it's way along with a little trinket/souvenir for the next blogger. I love it! Do what feels right, just have fun. And, don't forget, take pics and post 'em. I'll be sharing your pics on my blog as well. You will be the T.H.S.R.P. Spotlight Blogger! At the end of its journey I'll create a slideshow reminiscing about its travels (and wishing it had been me :-> ). On and on it goes! (Cross your fingers).

Have fun at our Virtual Girls Night Out! If you like, leave your blog link and we'll visit your blog and say, "Happy VGNO!"

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
