I Believe She Snapped

Get this...

There's a story in our local news claiming that a woman robbed a bank then picked up her kids after school on her way home.  (Here's the story link:  http://www.kgw.com/news/local/103474134.html.)

Now, I know this is wrong.  Wrong, wrong, wrong.  Illegal, immoral, dangerous and all that stuff.  But the thing is, I get it.

I would believe that you would have to be in the worst financial circumstance to make peace with the decision to put your safety, and the safety and lives of your children, into the hope that you wouldn't get caught robbing a bank and that this money will provide what your family needs.  I really and truly hope it's as innocent as that, no drugs, nothing messy, just being plain broke.

Can you imagine what must have been going through her mind that morning?  "Let's see, make the school lunches.  Oh, we're out of bread.   Do the laundry.  Um, no laundry detergent.  Clean the litter box.  Wait, we're out of cat litter.  CRAP!  I'm sick of this!!!  Wait, I have an idea.  I have time to stop by the bank before I pick up the kids.  I'll just pop in there, pass a little note to the teller, then get the kids.  We'll go out for ice cream!"

When the finances just get to be too much - or too little to be precise - and the struggle to afford Top Ramen breaks your spirit, can't you just see that little crack happen in someones logic?  Can't you see that crazy smile and glazed eye look come over their face?  I can.

Hey, if I ever get like that, just give me a virtual *slap* upside the head, ok?  I wouldn't look very good in orange Dept. of Corrections jumpsuits.

  1. Something about this also has me feeling for this woman. I picture financial depseration. :( Hope it was that and not drug related.

  2. Well, at least she did it before school was let out and not after. Then she could have had the kids waiting in the car... "I'll be right back, sweeties, mommy just needs to make a withdrawal." ;)

  3. This is now my new fantasy. Pick up dry cleaning, go to the grocery store, buy stamps, rob a bank, pick up kids, drive to airport, fly to Fiji, live happily every after. LOL

  7. I do hope she was able to buy her kids something nice before they took her away. Like a locket with a pic of Mommy in it so they don't forget what she looks like while she is gone.

It is interesting however, how things that seemed sooooo unfathomable before kids begins to sound almost perfectly sane after kids. Like, say...oh, I dunno...eating our young!

  8. The state our nation is in right now is aweful. There are so many able and willing bodies out there who would love a job, any job and can not afford to have health care or put food on the table. Then there are people who are able to work with expensive clothing, a zillion expensive tats, piercings with diamond studs all over their body, the latest and greatest ring tones on their just on the market smart phones, smoking a couple packs of cigs a day who are walking into ER's around the nation with Medicare as their source of payment for health care. It's very frustrating for everyone and not an easy subject to discuss at any time. All I can do is hope we as a nation can find the best solution and soon.
