I Love My Chiropractor

My body is messed up.

I think it started when I was in a car accident when I was about 12 yrs. old. That began my neck problems. Then, the night of my Senior Prom I was involved in another accident. (My date rear-ended friends while driving his mother's brand new BMW on the way to the dance. Good Lord. It was like a John Hughes movie.)

The older I get the harder I have to work to make my core strong. Having children taxed my body in ways it wasn't prepared for. A few years ago my back went out and I was immobile. I was so depressed! Here I was, in my late 30's and I felt like my body was 130. I could not move. Then... then I found my current Chiropractor. *Cue the angels singing*

I have gone to Chiropractor's since I was 12 and I have experienced many different techniques. There was one that had, now this is my interpertation, a plastic cone with a roller ball on one end that he would move over your body while rolling the ball. He said that this was picking up the areas of tension in the body so he knew where the source(s) of pain were. Are you kidding me?!? There was more silliness. I wasn't happy.

Then the glorious Dr. Dan came along. He really won me over when he told me "I don't want to see you". Meaning, I want to fix you, and send you on your way. Not the "Come and see me 3 times a week for 6 months" routine.

The last time I visited his office was June of 2008. (I can't believe that! Good for me.) When I showed up this morning he knew which side was out and what I was feeling before I said anything. *sigh* I love this guy.

I'm hurting from my adjustment right now, but I know I'll feel better very soon. A little Ibuprofen with a whiskey chaser works every time. kidding! well, kind of ;->

  1. Can you send him to my town for the weekend??? I've had neck issues ever since a car accident too...I'm not in pain every day from it, but when I stretch a certain way or don't sleep carefully on just the right pillow....then I pay for it for several days.

  2. Oh no!!! I am glad that you'll be feeling better too!
(All of my friends who go to chiros SWEAR by them. I've never gone but they sound pretty good to me!)

  3. I was never in a car accident but when I first went to see a chiropractor and he looked at my x-rays the first thing he asked was if I was sure I had not been because I certainly looked as if I had!

Have you ever tried yoga? Eighteen months ago I tried the "hot" yoga and after a few months noticed huge improvements in my posture and mobility and stopped getting problems with my neck. The last few months I've not been able to go to classes owing to my husband's work schedule and sure enough, the old problems have come back again. So I would recommend trying it - I really like it too!

  4. Oh, you are motivating me to see one - they should make you into a commercial :). I have chronic back problems and do physio and massage, but have not had a lot of chiropractor luck. Maybe I need to try again!

  6. You were lucky to find that guy because while chiropractors can do miracles on an aching body - a lot of them can't. Leave the pills alone - the whiskey should do the trick by itself...shouldn't it? Anyway visiting you for UB Party. Hope you come visiting my sight. If you follow me, I'll follow you..smiles. - Haupi

  9. Glad I found your blog via the UBP! While you don't make back trouble sound amusing, the way you write about it brings a smile... and I have to say, I wish I had your Dr. Dan - sounds heavenly. (Or is that just the angels singing?) The Virtual Girls' Night Out sounds like a great idea - I will have to join you!

  10. Ohhhh, I feel your pain! Had neck pain 24/7 for about 3 years after being rear-ended. My (ex)doctor was sending me to a neurologist, didn't even think to recommend a chiro.
My insurance co. said my treatments were lasting longer than was expected based on their "formula". Crazy!
At any rate, my neck is better now, but still hurts from time to time. @AgingMommy was absolutely right-on with the yoga bit...that always helped me too. Though looking back, a shot of whiskey prob. would've done the trick!
    Happy partying (UBP10)!

  12. What a powerful testimony. There are so many stories like yours of people getting injured someone and feeling the results of it years later. I appreciate that you took the time to share your story online. I hope people are encouraged by this and begin to see chiropractors for their ailments.
