And the reason people, mostly women, give the mini-van a bad time is why? I mean really? Is it because of the shape? Is that it? Or, is it because it's a vehicle that fits more than 4 people which makes it a perfect vehicle for parents? Further confirming that 'yes' you are a parent and 'yikes' you're not ready to deal with that fact.
I have driven a mini-van for, oh, about 5 years now and I honestly love it. I love that it has all the room I need, that my 2 children can sit 1 row from each other, and that, if need be, I can help a friend out with a little bit of moving. (Taking out the back row is great!)
Yes someone said something that prompted this rant. And yes, I let them know how I felt about this silly, on-going subject. But... I guess I still had a little more to say

Yes, I Drive A Mini Van - So What?!?

Maybe they are envious of the fact that you have one? What a silly thing to say!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw your post pop up in my blogfeed, I thought, "Oh dear, I'm the one who offended Ann!" I don't think there's anything wrong with parents driving a minivan to do the carpools and help people move. But I just wrote a post where, among other things, I wondered why my 65-year-old mother still drives a minivan, when both of her children have left the house, she has no grandchildren, and rarely drives in the carpool. I owe you a big apology!
ReplyDeleteBefore I was a mom, I thought mom vans were like a secret society of boringness, loserdom, and mommitude. Now I am in love with my van. I even have a post about this on my blog too! Respect the van! That's what I say.
ReplyDeleteHEre's that post if you want to take a peek:

Kitten - not you, not you! It was someone at my girls school today and I just was so tired of it.
ReplyDeleteAgain... not you :->
I would not ridicule anyone who drives one but if I am honest about it I really have never liked mini vans and yes, for me it is because of the shape. But I also thought SUV's were horribly boring too and now I drive one (yes, the day I realized my Honda S2000 had to go as I could not fit a baby, stroller and all the associated paraphernalia in it was indeed a sad one). So who knows, if I had more than just one daughter to transport I might end up getting a mini van too!
ReplyDeleteSo please don't hate me :)
oh I almost cried when we had to get a mini van, really I hated it and it was a brand new one with lots of great features. people would tell me it was nice and I just cringe. it's not nice, it's a mini van! lol I hate how big it is.

ReplyDeleteDarling, anyone who cracks on a minivan: you look them straight in the eye, dead serious....
ReplyDelete"I can pick up my daughter and 2 pallets of patio stone for our new summer room..."
"I can drop you off and bring the entire party home to my place..."
My girfriend and I can go out for breakfast....and come home with a new dining room table!"
"And when it's all said and done, after we drop the kids at grandma's...we can have sex before we even hit the first red light!"
I would love to have a minivan....if you know someone who doesn't have the proper appreciation for theirs you can tell them to send it my way! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh please! Remember those gawd-awful station-wagons with the faux wood paneling? (What was THAT about?) The ones our parents used to cart us around in? Now THOSE are deserving of derision! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many mini-vans beat me and my mazda hatchback at the traffic light! The engines on those things are unreal! Plus the DVD players are pretty cool too! :)
I totally totally love my van, I dont' want to drive hubbie's new car because i like the van more.
ReplyDeletea car is a car is a car. all the better when there's more space, no? sigh...
