As we move along through the heavy transition our friends are experiencing, we are doing what we can to make some things a little lighter.
Luckily the sun is shining. That feels good. There are LOTS of Otter Pops in the freezer (always a hit.) And silly cartoons distract from reality. One new show on Cartoon Network caught my attention and I just had to share this with you. (We could all use a laugh, right?)
Cartoon Network has a game show called Brain Rush. This show takes unsuspecting guests at Knotts Berry Farm and asks them if they would like to answer trivia questions while riding the crazy, wild, outrageous rides. Now, the participants are already going on the ride so they aren't being tricked. They earn money for every correct answer and, have the potential to make $5000. For that amount of money damn my dizzyness! Let's do it!
The following clip is Trevor. He voluntarily went on the first ride, did well enough on that round, and has moved on to the next round, The Silver Bullet. He said that rides frighten him but, he's willing to face his fear and ride this sucker. What you are going to see is a one-shot on Trevor. (The program shows both participant and host along with the correct answer along the bottom of the screen.) The host is sitting next to him. The host has read a story and is going to ask questions about the story. On we go...
Unfortunately what you don't see is the host laughing so hard he's wiping away tears. My girls, our sweet friend and I laughed so hard we were crying too.
I know we probably shouldn't laugh. But we really needed this. Thank you dear Trevor. ((hug))

Slap On That Phony Smile
Today is a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the temperature is perfect and I can hear a lawnmower doing it's job somewhere in the neighborhood. I'm doing all I can to keep a smile on my face but, something life changing is happening today and I can't stop thinking about it.
My oldest daughter has the sweetest best friend. She has spent as much time as possible at our house this past school year. Her Father would call me saying "Hi Ann, I'm looking for a girl who looks alot like my daughter. Have you seen her?" Our house seems to be a magnet for her big brother also. Dinner time is never dull, and now, with school being out, let's throw lunch time in the mix too. (I might need to start my own "Food Drive" soon ;-> )
These children, these young children, have no idea that today, right now, their father is having an incredibly serious procedure done to save his life. Their mother called me a few days ago to tell me what was happening and asked for child care help. She is doing all she can to keep it together. She's 38 years old with 3 children, ages 12, 10 and 3. No matter the outcome of the procedure, their life is forever changed as of today.
I'm making whatever food they want. I've got the Slip & Slides out and have music playing. They haven't been told how serious the situation is and, unfortunately, I know. I know it all.
I Don't Want To Be A Grown-Up Anymore!!!!!
Whew... OK. Time to gather myself. Time to smile. Time to hug. Time to make more sandwiches.

Virtual GNO - Anniversary and a Large Storm

Geez! I don't know about you but I am so glad this week is over. Or, at least, I am so glad Friday is here. Number 1, because this week has felt very funky. Yesterday was such a weird combination of 'Really???' and 'Wow!!!' And, Number 2, because today is my 16th wedding Anniversary. (Love you Guitar Guy!)
I need a release! I need a party! I need a Virtual Girls Night Out!!!
First virtual party? Welcome! The original Virtual GNO is a blog-hopping party that began in the summer of 2008. I couldn't get a sitter and was in desperate need for time away from my children and some adult conversation. I decided to do the next best thing and turned to my blog friends. At least I can "get out" in my imagination.
Get Your BLOG Over Here!
To join the blog-hopping fun, check out my VGNO post then sign the Mr. Linky guest book with your name/blog link. Visit fellow bloggers that have signed in. It's a party so at a party you mingle, right? Go blog-hopping! I want everyone to connect. That's what it's all about.
Time To Move!
Last night hubby and I went to the one-woman show "Crazy Enough" from the glorious, completely #$%!@# awesome talent Storm Large. Here she is when she was on Rock Star: Supernova back in 2006.
Storm Large "Ladylike"
If there is any chance that she gets this show on the road you must go see her. This video does not do her power justice. Check out her MySpace page. (You just might get a kick out of her bands name, or offended ;-> ) Storm Large.
Time For A Cocktail!
Wedding Anniversary
Ingredients:
3 oz Vodka
3 oz Galliano
12 oz Orange Juice
1 1/2 oz Campari Bitters
Directions:
Shake with ice and strain into a glass.
Galliano is made from flowers and herbs. I can't wait to try it!
And The Lucky Winner Is...?
Last weeks VGNO had a great giveaway from our friend Julie at Skin Free. The $30 Gift Certificate goes to...
Stacie from Super Mommy To The Rescue. Congratulations Stacie! Enjoy the wonderful products.
I hope to have another terrific giveaway for my VGNO buddies next week :->
Time For A Question
Have you met the love of your life? If so, how did you meet?
I've told a little bit about the beginning of my relationship with Rob (a.k.a. "Guitar Guy") and I will go into more detail later about our fun beginning but, I don't want this VGNO post to go too long. And I'd rather hear your story! So tell me, how did you two crazy kids meet? :->

One In A Million
Being unique has its virtues. I find it particularly wonderful in people and in cars. If only our family van had that virtue. I’ve seen so many vans like ours I wonder if the company ran out of ideas, hit the “repeat” button and called it a day.
After a shopping trip with my girls, we ran through a surprise rain storm to get into our car. When we reached the car I put the key into the lock, but nothing happened. I tried to put the key into the other door, but it wouldn’t budge either. My girls were yelling “Mom, hurry up! We’re getting soaked!” I was also getting drenched and very frustrated.
I gathered my girls and headed back to the store. While we stood there dripping, my mind was flooding with solutions to fix my car. I mean, there must be something wrong with the car, right? I thought, ‘Call for a tow truck. Call my mother to pick us up. Call a locksmith.'
I told my girls to wait at the store entrance while I went into the rain storm to try this again. When I reached the car I thought I would try the lock at the back. As my hand went for the lock I noticed the license plate. ‘I don’t have a white license plate. What the heck?’ That’s when I stood in the middle of the parking lot and spun around to see MY van one row over with my distinct Little Bobble Head Buddha dash ornament staring at me with his wise smirk, as if to say “No door shall open for one who doesn’t use the right key.”
On our drive home I couldn’t stop giggling. Yes, my girls were frustrated and uncomfortable with their drenched hair and wet clothes. However, I felt a great sense of accomplishment. I had been begging the girls to wash their hair for days!

Virtual GNO - Summer Vaca & A Giveaway!

The best part of summer vacation is sleeping in. Oh yeah baby, now we're talkin'! I can't tell you the joy it gives me to know that I don't need to be "up-and-at-'em" every morning. There is definitely a difference between just having to get yourself together to go to work and getting children up and ready for the day. We can relax with the morning challenge for a few months now. Ya-hoo!
Hey! I know, let's celebrate with a Virtual Girls Night Out!
New guest? Welcome! The original Virtual GNO is a blog-hopping party that began in the summer of 2008. I couldn't get a sitter and was in desperate need for time away from my children and some adult conversation. I decided to do the next best thing and turned to my blog friends. At least I can "get out" in my imagination.
To join the blog-hopping fun, check out my VGNO post then sign the Mr. Linky guest book with your name and blog link. Visit fellow bloggers that have signed in. It's a party so at a party you mingle, right? Go blog-hopping! I want everyone to connect. That's what it's all about.
Time To Dance!
George Michael "Freedom"
I always wanted to wrap my hair in a towel and whip it up like Cindy Crawford does. And those legs?! Man. Oh well, maybe in another life. In this one I'm working on just stopping my thighs from rubbing together when I walk.
Time For A Cocktail!
"Supermodel"
Ingredients:
1.5 oz. Bacardi Limon Rum
1/2 oz. Midori Melon Liqueur
1/2 oz. Blue Curacao
Directions:
Shake with ice and strain into a shot glass.
I try to stay away from blue drinks, but I'll give this a try. (But maybe that's the point with this drink being called "Supermodel". Drink the blue drink, get sick, *poof* no calories! )
Time For A Question
Has anyone ever told you you looked like someone famous? I have friends who I think look like so-and-so but no one has ever told me I look like a celebrity, etc. When I was young I had the Kristy McNichol look going, but that was about it. What about you?
Time For A Giveaway!
Our new friend Julie from Skin Free Skincare Products is going to share one $30 Gift Certificate with one lucky VGNO guest this week! I've tried their products and honestly, truly I really like them. There is no fragrance added but the natural oils give a delicious scent. I absolutely love it! These products are workin' for me and I'll be giving a full review on my site Ann Again... and again Reviews next week.
But for now, lets see who wants to win the $30 Skin Free gift certificate!
1) Go to the Skin Free website (http://www.skinfree.net/) and find a product/products that interest you. Come back here and let me know which product/products in the comment section. *One Entry*
2) Announce the VGNO Skin Free giveaway on Twitter. (Let me know. I'll check) *One Entry*
Winner will be chosen using Random.org on Thursday, June 25th. US Only. Good Luck!
Alright now, go have fun! Sign in with Mr. Linky. If Mr. Linky isn't working please leave your blog link in the comments section below to join the Virtual GNO. Visit those that sign-in. Don't Answer That!
Telephone etiquette is important. I believe in a full “Hello” when someone answers the phone. None of this “Yea” or “Hull-a” I hear from kids when they answer their cell phones. Speak up! Someone has chosen to talk to you! Show some pride.
When I call friends their children sometimes answer the phone. ‘Hello? Hello? Is someone there?’ “yes” (barely audible) ‘Could you get your mom for me?’ “wha’?” It seems as if they’ve never spoken to a human. ‘Could you please get…’ Ah, well. I’m sure you’ve all been there. And that’s why it’s important to me that my girls know how to answer the phone properly. I thought that I had done my job. That is, until recently.
We have certain times and places when we do not answer the phone. Dinner time is one. Homework time is another. And, I thought, it was understood that the one place we would all agree on would be the bathroom. I guess my daughters don’t feel the same way.
*ring*ring* footsteps-footsteps (voice heard outside the door) “My mom’s on the potty now. Let me see if she wants to talk to you”. WAIT! ‘What are you doing Honey?!? Who are you talking to?!? Give me the phone!’ Argh. Laughter greets me on the other end of the line. This is NOT how I like to start my conversations.
*ring*ring* footsteps-footsteps (voice from the other side of the door) “My mom’s naked right now. She doesn’t want to talk to you”. WAIT!!! I grab a towel. ‘Honey, WHY are you sharing that information? Give me the phone please’. Laughter, again, greets me.
It’s time for more lessons on phone etiquette. This time I’ll remember to teach the phrase “My mother is indisposed.” That sounds so much more glamorous than “My mom’s on the potty”, don’t you think?
** Please visit my review site for information on the book "The Side-Yard Superhero". It would make a great Father's Day gift! Ann Again... and again Reviews

You Have A Little Something Right … There!
I was getting ready in a hurry. My girls had some place to be and I didn’t want them to be late because of me. Usually they are the ones dawdling, however this morning I decided to be good to myself and exercise. (Yay me!)
So I jump out of the shower and do all of the primping I normally do, only 10 times as fast. Rub on all of the lotions and potions that I’ve researched to make me look younger, brush my hair with the fancy hair brush that will help my hair shine and bounce, put on the self tanner so I don’t look like an Albino. (Not that there’s anything wrong with Albino’s. I’m just saying for me, I go with the faux glow, thank you.)
I drive my youngest to her friend’s house. I go inside to get things organized with the mom and snuggle with her new baby, (she’s just a doll!). Next I take my oldest over to her friend’s house and chat with that mother. She just bought a package of Space Bags and loves them. ‘I need to get some of those’ I’m thinking as I head to the store. I’m picking out the necessary party favors for a party we are hosting this weekend. (This, of course, will include a little bit of “Mommies Juice Box”. It’s a family party. Wine is not a bad idea.)
After I spend too much time at the store, I decide I’ve had enough of florescent lights and I’m ready to go home. The checker is nice, only ve-e-ery slow. She likes to talk. (Um, that’s nice and all about your niece’s dance recital, but I really just want to go home now.)
Upon pulling into my driveway a neighbor needed to come over and tell me that they were going out of town and asked if we would keep an eye on the place. We talked for a bit then I went inside to unload my wares. And that’s when I saw it. Right there, in the hall mirror, my forehead with a huge streak of white lotion accentuating my frown line.
I looked like a back-up singer for Adam Ant. ARGH!
Come on people! Is it really so hard to tell someone that “they’ve got a little something right there”? I’ve had eye-to-eye contact with 2 mom-friends, an overly friendly checker, and my neighbor but still not one of them told me about this lane divider on my face! I find it hard to believe that people would think I intended to have this slab of lotion on my forehead.
Oh well. Maybe they think I’m going for a new look. And who knows, it just might catch on.

Virtual GNO - I'm Sassy Sue!

It's here. It's really here. Summer vacation. The last day of school was Wednesday and my girls are already bored. GEEZ! I've compiled a list of things to do. I've bought snacks and offered to put up a tent in the backyard, just something out of the ordinary to get the summer fun going. But what do I hear? "I'm bored". Ugh. Transitions aren't easy. I think I'll runaway to the tent!
You know what I need? A Virtual Girls Night Out!
New to the party? Welcome! The original Virtual GNO is a blog-hopping party that began in the summer of 2008 when I couldn't get a sitter and was in desperate need for time away from my children and some adult conversation. I did the next best thing and turned to my blog friends. At least I can "get out" in my imagination.

Time To Sing!
Oh man, this movie came out in 1978. All summer long I begged my mom to take me to this movie again and again and again. I had the soundtrack and acted out the parts. I was obsessed. (And my mom was concerned. Think about it. A sweet girl changes her ways to become a bad girl to attract the guy. NOT GOOD! But I didn't care about that stuff. I just loved the music. Ah youth.)
Grease - "We Go Together"
No matter what, if this movie comes on, I'll watch it. Love it!
Time For A Cocktail
Pink Lady (Are you surprised? Nope ;-> )
Ingredients:
1/2 Shot White Rum
1 Shot De Kuyper Crème De Cassis
Top up Orange Juice
1/2 Shot Lemon Juice
Directions:Shake ingredients together in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a highball glass half filled with cubed ice. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Ooooohhh I can't remember what Cassis tastes like but I can't wait to find out :-> This sounds like something yummy to sip while I'm hiding in the backyard tent singing to the Grease soundtrack. I'm sure my neighbors won't mind ;->
And The Winner Is...
We had such a great giveaway last week. Erin from Giant Fortune Cookies & Fancy Fortune Cookies wanted to share a $50 gift certificate with one lucky VGNO guest and that guest is...
Kristen from All In A Mom's Life! Congratulations and Enjoy!
There will be another wonderful giveaway at next weeks VGNO. Yeah!!!
Time For A Party Game

Let's get our Pink Lady jackets and sew on our new names. My name starts with an 'A' so my Pink Lady name is Sassy Sue. Follow the chart to find your Pink Lady name.

She's Right!
While I was standing in the kitchen my youngest was drawing. When she left the table and went outside to play this is what I found.
"Sometimes my mom needs to use a cookbook to cook"
There I am, standing in the kitchen with a tier of produce beside me, smiling while I look at a cookbook. Lily has definitely captured a wishful expression. (I need to smile while in the kitchen more often.)

Apology To My Dog
Oh, Benny. I am so sorry. Ever since the Wii has entered our house you have been missing out on quality time with your family. Instead of the kids rushing home to play with their favorite pooch, they bound in the door and ask if they can “go bowling”. And when your favorite guy comes home you don’t get the quality time you’re used to. Tiger Woods Wii Golf seems to have taken your place.
I thought that I could make-up for their recent lack of interest. Our walks would be longer. You’re treats would be home-made. But, you see my dear, sweet, hairy friend, I have found Wii Fit. And, now I realize, you are a Wii Widow.
I’m sure you are not alone. There must be more pets out there that are going through the same experience. Perhaps I can find a support group for you? You’re meetings could be at the dog park while you sniff each other and moan about your people jumping up and down all the time and swatting at the T.V. You can mention how you don’t understand why your people look at the T.V. when they could be looking into your sweet, puppy-dog eyes.
I will find something just for you Benny, I promise. But let’s make sure it doesn’t happen during my Wii Yoga time, OK?

Bret Michaels - Man Down
So I'm watching The Tony's last night and the opening number was great. There was singing, there was dancing and there was some bodily harm. Hollywood has nothing on live theater.
There is a musical called "Rock of Ages" playing at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre which stars Constantine Maroulis. Remember him from American Idol? (He was even up for a Tony?! Can you believe that?) This musical is based on hair bands of the '80's. The music of Poison is featured in this musical, so Poison was there singing "Ain't Nothin' But A Good Time".
Let's see what happens when Bret Michaels doesn't pay attention to the fact that the show must move along and it can't wait for him to soak up all the love that he thinks is just for him.
And down he goes! His hat just laid there. No one even kicked it to the side.
Bret, in the theater when it's your cue to exit the stage, you really do need to exit the stage. Stockard Channing waits for no one.

Virtual GNO - Smelling The Roses & A Giveaway!

Planning for summer time fun can be kind of stressful. That makes no sense! I look through the Parks and Recreation catalogs for fun daycamps. I ask teacher's if they know of fun classes. The thing is, there is plenty to do, it's just that everything is so dang expensive! One teacher gave me a list of classes that she said would be perfect for my oldest but the rate is so far out of our reach. And with 2 kids all the summer time "fun" is double the price! OW! My aching checking account.
You know what I need? A free Virtual Girls Night Out!
New to the party? Welcome! The original Virtual GNO is a blog-hopping party that began in the summer of 2008 when I couldn't get a sitter and was in desperate need for time away from my children. I did the next best thing and turned to my blog friends. Friday nights have been a blast ever since.
To join the blog-hopping fun, check out my VGNO post then, due to Mr. Linky having issues (no problem, we can still do this) leave your blog link in the comment section. Visit fellow bloggers that have left their blog links in the comment section. It's a party so at a party you mingle, right? Go blog-hopping! I want everyone to connect. That's what it's all about.
Time To Dance!
Michael Franti & Spearhead "Say Hey"
No way to sit still for that song. Love it!
Portland is having it's annual Rose Festival right now. There's lot to do around the city. Our big Rose Festival Parade will be televised Saturday morning. (Look for me! I'll be waving at you!)
Time For A Cocktail!
Coming Up Roses
Ingredients:
- Lime
- 3 fresh rose petals
- 1/2 oz rose syrup
- 1 splash of rose water
- 1 1/2 oz raspberry flavored rum
- 2 oz champagne
Directions:
Muddle lime, rose petals with rose syrup and rose water in a mixing glass. Add rum and shake in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain the mixture into a highball glass over ice and top off with champagne.
Sounds like the perfect drink while sitting in my little rose garden. Speaking of, check out the size of this bloom!
It's bigger than my hand! And smells heavenly. It's hard to be stressed when you smell beautiful roses.
Answer Me This
Do you have a favorite flower? That's a hard one for me. I usually prefer the flower that smell best at the time. So for now I'll say my favorite is this bright yellow rose that happens to be next to me right now :-> What about you?

Some Days
Some days are just hard.
My oldest was diagnosed in the Asperger's spectrum when she was 5 years old. I wasn't surprised. I knew that there was a disconnect somewhere but what ever I read about Autism was a step too far from what I was experiencing with her.
Everyday is a lesson. Everyday we try to remember the tools that we've been given to guide her toward good choices. Her first reaction to things always seems to be 'anger'. That emotion is so far removed from the rest of us in this house that it can make some days incredibly, incredibly hard.
It's a roller-coaster.
Thank goodness my youngest was born with an easy going disposition. (I think this angers her big sister even more!)
There are some great days. Some really great days. Those days give me hope because then I know I'm seeing the real Katie. And she feels it too. And she wants to feel good. Our job is to remember how we got to this "feel good" place and do these things over and over again. Did we feed her something different? Did she get more sleep than usual? Less sleep? Did we cut back on video games? Did we give more one-on-one time?
There was a time when we had a chart for all these things, and more. But, trying to live your life by a check-off chart isn't easy. And daily living just gets in the way. "We didn't check off yesterday. What did you eat yesterday morning?".
School will be out for summer very soon. Transitions aren't easy. I'm planning activities and hope that this summer is the summer that we finally get her on a positive path. For her sake, and ours.

Minute Maid Commercial
I have to admit, the first time I saw this commercial I didn't catch on. But now I laugh every time.
Did you notice the size of that bottle he's drinking from? Just how much do you have to ingest before the "boost" helps your brain I wonder? Some days I believe I would need a couple of jugs. Unfortunately, I can relate all-to-well to the "What did I just say?" in this situation. Ugh!
