Disappointed In The "Show"

I went to the Portland Women's Show yesterday at the Oregon Convention Center. I supposedly won the tickets from some other show I attended (probably when I entered another giveaway trying to win a spa weekend for two no doubt). I asked my 11 yr. old if she wanted to go with me and at first she said no. Then I added 'There's probably going to be food samples there' and she quickly changed her answer to "Yes!"

For those that enjoy these shows, let me just say, well... I'm glad you enjoy them. Yes you can try out a lipstick that supposedly won't come off until you are darn good and ready for that stuff to come off. You can get your ring cleaned with a product that will also clean your eyeglasses and car dashboard but won't irritate your delicate skin. You can even get a little back massage from someone wearing a vibrating glove. (Image having this done while the salesperson is touting their new line of "Personal Pleasure Products" that they would just lo-o-ove to show you if you book a home party. My daughter is standing RIGHT HERE lady! What's the MATTER with you?!?) Mom had a lot of explaining to do with that last one.

Overall though, I was bored and insulted. It's really just a gathering of salespeople trying to get you to buy their products. Yes, most women do like to shop. But is this all we're about? No. You know it's not.

I was hoping for some inspiration, for some bits of wisdom that could help spark a great discussion between me and my soon-to-be 'Tween daughter. Instead we discovered that Tree Top has a new juice out that contains 20% fiber and your daily requirement of fruits. (I can imagine her diary entry, "Dear Diary, I feel so regular now!")

Well, the day wasn't a total loss. She and I did spend time together. And after attending this show, she said she was in no hurry to grow-up, it looks too boring.

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
