Virtual GNO - Thank You John Hughes

This week has flown by. I was actually able to be away for 2 nights but trying to coordinate child-care and dog care kind of took the fun out of it. Too much stress! You know what I'm in the mood for? A Virtual Girls Night Out!

New to the Virtual GNO? Welcome! This party has some of the best bloggers around! The original Virtual Girls Night Out is a blog-hopping party that I started last summer. I turned to my blog friends when I couldn't find a sitter that would allow me to actually get out of the house. Instead I'm "virtually out" with all of you!

Get Your BLOG Over Here!

To join the blog-hopping fun, check out this VGNO post then sign the MckLinky guest book with your name/blog link. Visit fellow bloggers that have signed in. It's a party so at a party you mingle, right? Go blog-hopping! I want everyone to connect. That's what it's all about.

Well, I have to say I am so sad, so bummed, that John Hughes passed away yesterday. Only 59! Damn! His stories, his words, they are a part of my history, my life story. I use phrases from his movies a lot. (I've gotten better at just saying them in my head. I don't want to annoy ;-> ) This Virtual GNO is for you John. R.I.P.

Simple Minds "Don't You Forget About Me"

How can you not sing-a-long to this song? When it plays in the car my dashboard is my keyboard. (I know I'm not alone on this, right?)

Time For A Cocktail!

Pretty In Pink
Ingredients:
1/2 oz Vodka
1 oz Captain Morgan® Parrot Bay pineapple rum
1 oz DeKuyper® Island Blue Pucker schnapps
1 oz DeKuyper® Peachtree schnapps
1/2 oz Rose's® grenadine syrup
1/2 oz Rose's® sweet and sour mix
Directions:
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice then strain into glass.

Yowzaa! Just one of these beverages, if you please. Oh, maybe two. If I have three I'll be Pretty In Green, if you know what I mean.

Time For A Winner!

Our lovely friend Sue from Stay At Home Mom is the lucky winner of the GoPicnic giveaway! Let's go congratulate our dear blog friend.

Time For A Giveaway!

Some where in the house a radio is on, or a CD is playing. I have to have music playing. (It's been the "Pretty In Pink" Soundtrack today.) Sure I love to hear birds singing and leaves rustling in the wind, but they sound even better with some tunes to go with them ;->.

There's an internet radio service called Slacker Radio. They have a free service which I completely enjoy. Slacker.com is offering their Radio Plus service FREE for 3 months for 3 lucky winners at the VGNO 8/7. Check 'em out.

To Enter The Slacker.com Giveaway:
* Leave a comment saying you want to be entered. = 1 Entry
* Announce the VGNO Slacker.com giveaway on Twitter. = 1 Entry

Winner will be announced on 8/14. US Residents Only. Good Luck!

Time For A Question

If you are the age group who grew up with John Hughes movies, did you have a favorite? If so, why? Do you still quote John Hughes movies? Give me a quote!

  1. Hi Ann,
It has been too long. I need a VGNO. So here I am. My favorite John Hughes movie was "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".

Well it's good to be back and I can't wait to see everyone again.

  2. Very sad about John Hughes. :( Especially given that he was SO young. Also I had no idea how many movie he wrote as well as directed. My favourite is a toss up between Breakfast Club and Ferris Beuler's Day off... probably FBDO.

    Happy VGNO!

  4. I'm brain dead this afternoon. I've pasted the link to my review site into Mr Linky instead of my regular site. Is there a way to change it? (should be www.lady-mama.blogspot.com)
    Sorry! Argh.

  5. So many to choose from as for favorite movies. Stacy and I are on the SAME page. I quote Ferris Bueller all the time (even in my blog). But the one Hubby and I say most in our house is from Planes, Trains and Automobiles - "Those aren't pillows!!"

  16. Happy VGNO!

I have so many favorite 80's movies that I dont honestly think I could pick one. I dont know why but I was never a big fan of Ferris Bueller. I LOVED Pretty in Pink though. My all time fav is 16 candles. I could watch that movie every day. It was on last night and I missed it!

  18. Hey there Ann! How you been? It's just awful that John Hughes died! One of my fav movies was Sixteen Candles!! Not to mention Ferris Buellers Day Off.

  19. So sad! I love all his movies! Planes Trains & Automobiles gets quoted the most around our house, "You're Going the WRONG WAY!"

I hope I'm going the right way, heading down to Pacific City to camp with my kids & my parents for a few days. Hope we survive without my husband, not to keep us safe, my dad would always handle that, but to keep me from killing my mom on her 60th bday!

I know it will be fun, but gotta go pack some drinks just to keep us all happy!

I'll be around to check on all the blogs after I get back on Tuesday!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  22. All of my teen years happened in the 1980s. My whole teen experience can be pretty much relived by watching John Hughes's films. The ones I loved the most were She's Having a Baby, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink and of course...The Breakfast Club.

    RIP John Hughes

    Happy VGNO everyone!

  24. sorry I missed out on the VGNO fun! I wont be entering the contest. I've got a great station here at home that I play all day. They're slogan is the mix tape that never ends. :)

Other then the Vacation Movies my favorite other John Hughes movie from the 80s is 16 Candles. I still laugh at the grandpa happy to be sleeping on the top bunk! :)

  29. Oh man, John hughes...his movies are so interwoven through my teen years. Pretty In pink and The Breakfast Club are two of my favorites. I, too, say lines from his movies...out loud. A lot. And i sing "I want to be an Air Force Ranger..." at the top of my lungs when I am bored to tears. LOL

I will leave you with this..."Blaine? His name is Blaine? That's a major appliance! That's not a name!" And my favorite "Is he an oily type bohunk?"

    RIP John Hughes.
