Normally being told you smell like dirt wouldn't be a complement. However, the name of the scent I wear is "Earth", I love the scent and so does my husband. The name of the oil, through my husband’s own interpretation machine, goes from “Earth” to "Dirt". I don't think his title would sell the product very well. And that got me thinking, what are some great perfume names that aren't being used? And what are some confusing ones that are?
I would totally go for scents called Enlighten, Rapture, or Coconut Cream Pie. But the scent called “Poison” has always confused me. From the name alone I definitely do not want to spray it on my body. I can just imagine my children overhearing a conversation “Oh, what are you wearing?” says a fellow mom at the park. ‘Poison, do you like it?’ I respond with X’s over my eyes. I have enough things in this world I need to explain to my children, the name of the scent I’m wearing is one I choose to avoid.
We can select from “Happy”, “Inspire”, “Angel”, and “Sunflower”. What in the world would make a company think we would be drawn to a scent called “Jungle L’Elephant”? Jungle Elephant?!? I’m all for artistic expression but I can’t get past the idea that I would end up smelling like an elephant. From my understanding, one reason we choose to wear fragrance is to AVOID smelling like an animal.
Well, if you start seeing large mammals roaming the streets don’t blame me. I’ll be the one walking through a flowery meadow dreaming of “Sun, Moon & Stars”, not a “Safari”.

Lol...cute!! I like your way of thinking Ann...(mostly because it resembles my own lol)...I also never got the concept (hope this doesn't offend anyone) of buying clothes with other people's names on them. If I'm going to spend $100 on a shirt it better have my name on it...in gold. ;-D
ReplyDeleteI never thought of it this way, but you are right some scents have strange names....
ReplyDeleteLOL! I actually like the smell of dirt, mud, wet dirt..lol & I don't like the title poisin or the perfume itself. My favorite perfumes are Jlo's "still" & Britney spears "curious" funny how I'm not fond of either of them, but I just love those perfumes!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm, I'm a daisy girl myself. The name has to be pretty or I'm not going for it!
ReplyDeleteSo funny!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love how eau de toilette means toilet water in English. Charming! ;)
A guy friend of mine once asked why men don't have a cologne named "Compost." He said, "If girls have herbs, what do guys have, compost?"
ReplyDeleteJungle Elephant!? I can't imagine the conversation that led them to name it that!!
ReplyDeletePoison, I wore that in the 80s and LOVED it. Now, I wear Angel, but they also make one called Alien that we got a sample of, and I spray that on from time to time!
ReplyDeleteWell first, I'd like to know what this Earth smells like, 'cause aside from actual dirt (LOL) I can only think of it as smelly woodsy or flowery.
ReplyDeleteI have a perfume that I love called Cocoon, but every time I wear it I think back to that movie and all the pod people in the pool.
Justine :o )
Mmmmmm. I love the smell of earth -and dirt.
ReplyDeletecool post! I had never thought about names of scents like that before :)
ReplyDeletehahahaha - men come out with the oddest names, eh!? I agree some of the names make you question the scent. To me poison stinks so it IS named appropriately LOL.
ReplyDeletelol oh my.. interesting names.
ReplyDeleteI wear Delicious (DKNY), so I guess you know how I taste... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm out checking out the blogs today leaving comments for the CC3 Club. Have a great week!
Too funny! There really are some very strange names for parfumes. I've always wondered why the name poison was chosen for a parfume too.
ReplyDeleteSome of those perfumes sure do have strange names. So now you got me thinking. LOL
ReplyDeleteNot just an elephant, a JUNGLE elephant. Big difference.
ReplyDeletehehe.. very funny, ann, and yes, you got me thinking, too! lol :D

Now I'm curious, what does Earth smell like? I don't like perfume usually, but would love to find an interesting scent. I used to wear Poison waaaay back in the day. (And in junior high I wore Love's Baby Soft, do you remember that one?)
