Virtual GNO - I'd Rather Be... & A Giveaway!

As we settle into summer temperatures around 90 degrees, I'm OK with that. I mean, I'd rather deal with that then crazy 100 + temperatures. It's incredible what a difference those few digits make. I'm ready to sip something cold, sit in front of a fan and have a Virtual Girls Night Out!

New to the Virtual GNO? Welcome! This party has some of the best bloggers around! The original Virtual Girls Night Out is a blog-hopping party that I started last summer. After a very long week I wished for one night away from my precious children and some adult conversation. However, I couldn't find child care so, I did the next best thing and turned to my blog friends. I'm "virtually out" with all of you!

Time For A Sing-A-Long!

If it's summertime, it's time for an Indigo Girls show!

Indigo Girls "Get Out The Map"

I love 'em!!! If you don't have an Indigo Girls cd yet, you should. (I'll tell you which are my favorites, if you need any help :-> )

I am so-o-o-o ready for a road trip. I'm ready to load up the car, grab some snacks and hit the road. Just go! Rob and I drove from Oregon to Connecticut a few times and every trip was fantastic. We had our share of car break downs, flat tires, etc. but still, those were some of the best times of my life. Oh how I would love to do that again, to take off right when the sun is coming up.

Time For A Cocktail!

Rising Sun
Ingredients:
•1 1/2 oz brandy
•1/2 oz maraschino liqueur
•1/2 oz pineapple juice
•1/2 oz orange curacao liqueur
•2 dashes Angostura bitters
•lemon peel for garnish
Preparation:
*Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice & shake.
*Strain into a chilled cocktail glass & garnish with a lemon twist.

If I have too many of these I would be taking off sometime in the afternoon, no early rising for me! Yummy Yummy!

Time For A Question

I know where I would rather be right now. I would love to be in Calistoga, CA enjoying Sparkling Wine at Mumm. Then (after the appropriate amount of time ;-> )drive along the winding roads with our top down and the tunes guiding us along. 'What's that? Another winery? Let's visit!' Ahhh, dreamy. Where would you rather be?

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
