A MidSummer's Rant

I'm ready for the Substitute to come in now.

When summer vacation approaches I make lists of all our city has to offer. Hikes, water parks, educational programs, etc. I try to make sure my girls don't lose what they've learned through-out the year, but I get that we all need time to do 'nothing'. And I want that right now. I want to have someone else come in and plan the day while I... oh, I don't know... do nothing.

I've had my fill of meal planning. I've had my fill of whining. I've had my fill of chaperoning the "Field Trips", what we call outings. (Hoping that by calling the trips to the grocery store "Field Trips" the kids would get ready faster. Nope. Time for something new. Maybe I'll call them 'If You Get Ready I'll Give You A Dollar'.)

I praise daycare coordinators. I honor home schoolers. I think you're amazing. But for me, that Staples commercial is sounding pretty darn good right now.

This commerical is 15 years old! I can't believe that. Well, it's time for me to take a deep breath and enjoy these summer days. I know they'll be over before I know it.

  2. LOL!!!! See it's not just me singing that song in my head. My boys are currently outside doing some critter round up and excavation in the crop circle. I'm calling it a learning experience. I'm learning to sit on my butt and they are learning to leave mommy alone for a few.

  3. I don't have kids of my own (Worked for about 5 years as a youth counselor at a church I attended) but I have always loved that commercial. The look on the kids faces is priceless.

When all else fails you can always send them into the basement/attic/garage/utility shed/broom closet to clean/organize/straighten/whatever strikes your fancy. It always seemed to work on my brothers and I.

That or military school. Either one works well enough.

  5. I make mine play outside...and if they try to come in and whine I give them chores.

    Works like a charm!

  7. If you find a substitute source, let me know... I was looking longingly at the calendar today...only 6 more weeks before Princess Nagger starts school...and this time she'll be going all day! Not sure how I'm going to celebrate that first week...(grin!!!)

  8. Luckily this summer we are back home, and things are new and exciting (and I am not working much) so I am totally enjoying this and dreading when the school work, and stress of it all commences.

  9. I am always impressed with moms who are home during the summer. I can barely coordinate my own social calendar, mind you one of two kids! :)

Although, it will be nice to get back in that school time routine again.

  13. Why the heck are you planning anything? Call their friends, get them parked at someone else's house and then take a nap!

  15. Hey there. I have been couped up in a studio apartment for a week with these people. OMG do you know how much noise 2 boys can make in a week??? Of course these people are my family, but seriously a studio is so small and we're on top of each other. Next week I go back to work :)

    These are good times!!

  16. I totally understand. I put my kids in camp just for this week because I know by mid July I need the quiet time. I also have Pajama Days everyother wednesday. We all stay in our PJs watch too much TV, play video games, eat popcorn for lunch and order pizza. I don't even like to answer the phone on Pajama days!
