Virtual GNO - May Day Fun!

Guitar Guy and I are getting the house ready for our annual May Day gathering. Our house is small but our yard makes up for our tiny rooms. (Cross fingers that the rain holds off, at least for Saturday please Mother Nature!) I need a break from the party prep. Time for a Virtual Girls Night Out!

New to the party? The original Virtual Girls Night Out (boys welcome too) is a blog-hopping party. You are where the party begins! Check out my VGNO post then sign the Mr. Linky guestbook below. Visit fellow bloggers that have signed in as well. Now, go put on something cozy and settle in for the party. Add your blog link to Mr. Linky below and join in the blog-hopping fun!

Time To Twirl!

Missy Higgins "Steer"

I want to hang out in a field and play guitar too! (I should probably learn how to play first. Oh well ;-> )

The Kentucky Derby is Saturday. We make sure to have a delightful blend of the classic Derby drink, Mint Julep, on hand for our friends. Have you ever had a Mint Julep? Yowzaa!

Time For A Cocktail!

Mint Julep
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Sprigs of fresh mint
Crushed ice
Kentucky Whisky

Directions:
Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of "Early Times" Kentucky Whisky. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

After a couple of sips you'll be saying "Horse race? What horse race?!"

Time To Share & Win!

Have you ever brought something to a Pot Luck only to see that no one was eating it? Man! I tried this recipe for, what was supposed to be, a great cranberry relish with fresh orange rind and some other sweet, cool stuff. It was supposed to go with the Host's main dish of Chicken. Well, let's just say my bowl of red goo just sat on the table. My husband was a trooper and had a few spoonfuls to make me feel better. Yes, I taste-tested it before we left. I thought it was good. Whatever.

What about you? Have you been the one that brought the dish that nobody ate? Please share! I will have my May Day guests read your posts and we will select winners. The winners will receive packets of flower seeds to help celebrate this May Day.

OK now, go have fun! Sign Mr. Linky's guestbook below to join the Virtual GNO. Visit those that sign-in. Go blog-hopping! That's what it's all about. Share this party with your blog friends, post A LINK to the Virtual GNO on your blog and have them join us. Send our party into Twitter world. (#VGNO) The more the merrier! That's what it's all about.

Miss Poodle Perm, That's Me!

Jill of Scary Mommy is doing a linky post about school pictures. You know the ones, possibly you didn't smile a sweet smile, just the smirk of panic. Or you didn't know it was picture day because you had been out sick for a week and you show up in your most comfortable shirt and bed-head. (Yep. That happened to me. The smile was good though!) Well, my scanner isn't working or else I would post a particular picture from Freshman year. Since I don't have a visual, here's the story: I remember my first day of High School. Actually what I remember is the picture taken of me leaving for my first day of High School. I'm wearing a brave smile, but the hair, the hair , my hair style was a nightmare. My two best friends and I were going to be attending a High School out of our district. That was stressful enough. To add to this new-ness we wanted new looks as well. K. was going to sport the Argyle and Alligator shirt look. W. was going for 'All Monogram

My Questions Answered By Chef Pati Jinich - Video

Rob and I have been focusing on finding foods and spices that will help us take some weight off.  I've been slightly obsessed with staying on my exercise track (on week 8 now :->) and hope to get rid of this jiggly belly that has become wa-a-a-ay too comfortable on my body.  The older you get the harder it is to lose weight.  What I would say to my 40 year old self - 'See that pouch starting?  Do your crunches and planks now!  7 years from now it's going to get ugly !' I've found that spices cumin, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and turmeric are noted to increase metabolism.  ( Yes please !)  After a good workout coconut water is more beneficial in regulating your electrolytes, and lower in calories, than sports drinks.  It also contains more potassium than other drinks which is an important component in helping to build muscle which, in turn, helps you burn more calories. And my most surprising discovery - eating avocados help burn belly fat! I&#
