I'd Rather Act My Shoe Size

I wake in the morning with a smile on my face. I stretch slowly and effortlessly, ready for a new day. Gracefully I put on my lovely, flowing chiffon robe and open the drapes to a beautiful sunrise.

That is my dream.

Instead, I turn off the clock radio only to find that I have a crick in my neck and a hitch in my git-a-long. Ow! My aching back! It's not the mattress, it's my body. Why, oh why, is my body acting it's age? I'd rather it acted it's shoe size.

While watching my children and their classmates at recess I realized that my body is misbehaving. I remember feeling good. I remember being fearless. I used to love being on a swing and jumping off, trying again and again to land farther than I had before. Now I'd be lucky if my hips even fit into a swing. I remember the game you would play with the sidewalk "Step on a crack and break your mother's back". Then it was only a game, now it feels oh-so-real.

I'm doing my exercises, I'm eating right. But things still hurt, dang it. People have told me "When you hit *grumble-mumble* age your body lets you know it". Well I don't want to know it! I want to live in blissful oblivion like my children. Oh, sweet youth.

Why is my body doing this to me? Why can't I climb my favorite cherry tree? Well, it's time to grab my heating pad. I think I'll look into buying stock in Aleve.

  1. Oh, do I hear you, sister!

Ever since I hit my 40's I creak along like a little old woman! My brain is always about 40 steps ahead of my body!

  2. I'm heading to 46 next month and I wake up with aches and pains daily...nightly...all day long. No matter what, we need that heating pad. BUT our rockin' personalities outshine that pain.

    You're awesome...aches, pains and all.

Which makes relaxing in a hot bubble bath with a glass of wine even more oh-so heavenly.

  5. I hear you. I'm only 33, but some days I feel 80. (I really have aged over the last few years, though not surprisingly so given all that's happened)

  6. Ahhh yes. The aches and pains of getting older. Whenever something cracks on me or my husband, we both say, "that's a sign of old age." It's our running shoe size. My feet are huge, but I'd still like to be my shoe size.

  8. My gosh... I hit FIFTY ONE... Yes that's the big FIVE OH plus ONE! Most days aren't too bad, having a 12 year old keeps me "cool" (or at least I think so! I hate waking up with the hitch in my giddyup and a crick in my neck.. in my case though, I guess I have to blame some of it on the fact that I sleep on the sofa... darned insomia (yes that seems to come with age too!) (Oh or is it my addiction to blogging and tweeting?)

  9. You guys are so funny!! Let me just say.. everyone of you is younger than me.. sad but true!

Seriously, I think one of the best things we ever did, was buy a Tempurpedic mattress set. No more waking up with aches and pains!

Gotta do everything we can to keep from letting it all go south!

  10. It's funny, just the other day my girl Mikayla asked me one of the things I miss doing as a child. I told her swinging. Sure, an adult can still swing, but not ME. Nope, my ass can't fit on one!

PS I think this type of viburnum does well in zones 5-8, some maybe in zone 4 (the compact version) Thanks for stopping by!
