The Dooce Effect and the Tuesday Tune

Things are feeling really aggressive in the blogosphere lately and it makes me uneasy. Anyone else feel that blogging is all about trying to make money? I call it "The Dooce Effect". Yes, money can be made, but I'm seeing alot of ugly attitudes, and words, out in the blogosphere. Words, that I'm sure would NOT be said to that person's face but, someone feels comfortable enough to write them and send them on their way. Now I'm not saying that Dooce is this way. I'm saying I feel the desire to be the next big blogger is bringing out the nasty!

With that said (part 2 coming soon) let me flash my virtual "Peace" sign and play the song that expresses my naive outlook on being a blogger.

Elvis Costello "Peace, Love and Understanding"

~~~~~I've got a post up on the social site Beautiful! Fabulous! today. "It's Written On My Face". Come on over! Let me know what you think.
  2. It's hard reading the blog of someone who thinks they are the next big thing--not just the bad attitude but the focus on money, sponsors, ads, blogging conferences, etc....not a fun read.
  5. Wow! We must run in totally different blog circles because I have not gotten that vibe at all! But, I did catch a whole heck of a lot of that before and after BlogHer last year. I was starting to wonder just what I had gotten myself into with this whole blog thing!
    Peace out, peeps!
  7. Great song! I have been guilty writing about upcoming events to try and make a little extra money but man... these boys are eating me out of house and home!
    On a different note: I have NO desire to be the next big blogger. I can barely keep clean undies in my kids drawers. Plus, I don't want to be under the all scrutinous eye of the blogosphere. I am who I am and I blog for fun :)
  8. I've heard rumblings of this going on but apparently I don't travel in those circles because I have no idea who, what, and why. And that's ok by me.
  9. There's a great joke photo from the good people at Despair.com. It shows a room full of chimps at their computers (or screaming at nothing). The caption says "BLOGGING: We're going to need more monkeys."
    A cute little jab at all of us:)
  24. I am new to blogosphere. I haven't heard about any negativity. I guess I am oblivious to my surroundings and assume people post to have fun.
    I have the lastest remix to Cindy Lauper's eighties song...Blggers just want to have fun. LOL!!!
  25. I know that I started my blog to review safe and great products for all of us women (and men) that want to take care of our bodies and I wanted to tell the truth about the cosmetic "Industry" in the process. Although I haven't seen much of it and I might be the lone wolf here, but I see absolutely no reason why a woman can't use her blog to try and generate income for herself or her family. Would we say the same if a man did it? I'm not so sure we would ladies... men would be saying to one another "How are you going to make any money doing THAT???" Instead of looking down on those who choose to profit from their talent of writing or creating why not applaud each other and support each other in one loud voice of "Brava sister! Brava!" (whew...I think I just fell off my soapbox. either that or I was assassinated. where's the love ladies?)
    Givin' it my best, Lynn
  26. As far as women making money blogging, I think it is great and more power to them!
    However, I am out of the loop as I have not seen or read any of the negativity that is said to be going around.
