What Do You Think Of This Commercial

Alright. I've seen this commercial a few times and it just creeps me out. And not just because it's recreating a scene from Poltergeist (totally frightening!). It's because they are using the image of child actor Heather O'Rourke who died in 1988. Have you seen it?

Now, I think about Craig T. Nelson being offered this commercial. Is it fair to him to lose out on a job because his co-star died? No. But this just seems in bad taste. Probably because his co-star was a child. Should Craig T. Nelson have gone through with this?
What do you think?

  1. I see no problem with it. Just because she died, does that mean networks need to stop airing the movie?

    Just my two cents...

  2. I saw it for the first time a few days ago... I thought it was a little on the bad side of taste for me.... that movie was creepy as is, but using her in this commercial was creppy...

  3. Funny you would post this. Every time this commercial comes on, my husband make the same comment about how he just doesn't like it. He says it cheapens the original films. (I guess there's ones for Alien and Terminator too?) As for me, I know the scene but I'm too much of a wuss to have seen the entire movie. So I am not exactly rushing out to buy um... what is it they're selling again? :)

  4. In general I don't really love any of these commercials. The first time I saw one, I thought they were original, but now it's just too much. When I saw this one in particular, I kind of gasped because Carolann is gone now. I guess technically the film company owns the rights to her image in this instance, but something just kind of feels icky.

  5. I didn't realize that actress had died. The girl?? How said. I actually do think it's in bad taste--mainly b/c it's supposed to be a funny commercial and it just seems wrong

  7. Yeah, I think there may have been a few other movies they could have picked to mangle.

  11. I am so glad some else mentioned this. When I first saw it I flipped and was all "What amazingly poor taste that was done in...". Usually my husband tells me I am over-reacting, this time he agreed which means it's even worse than I thought. Blah...will not buy whatever it is they are selling and I'm not even sure what it was bc I was so disgusted.

  12. it's one thing when you show the movie on t.v., but to use it in a commercial is just downright tacky!

@jennifer and jenni-yes, a long time ago when she was 12. the girl who played her older sister, too :(

  14. Saw this commercial tonight and was thinking the same thing. I can't fault the guy, but the whole think is kind of creepy, and... disturbing if you know the girl has passed away.

  15. I didn't know she died either! And that commercial is kind a crazy, I'd never seen it before. So did you ever figure out where you were supposed to be!
