I don't think I am the age that I am.
I know on paper that I'm 'of a certain age' but in my heart I'm so-o-o much younger. Somewhere around 26.
I look in the mirror and don't understand why I have these lines around my eyes. Recently I found creases on my forehead! On my neck! WHAT?!? Creases?! This is a true "What The F**k" moment.
I know that I don't act my age sometimes because the nurse in the Emergency Room told me so. Or at least she did with her facial expression.
While on vacation, my 10 year old daughter wanted to go skateboarding but none of the kids in the group felt like it. It was sad to watch her mope around so I decided I would join her. I mean hey, I used to love to skateboard! I had a bright yellow fiberglass board with bright red wheels. (Look this up on Google and it comes up under "Memorabilia". I'm not kidding!) I had a long, tall driveway that I would sail down everyday. It was a great feeling.
I headed outside with my daughter and we chose our boards. I take it slow, it's been a lo-o-ong time. I was fine, but also frustrated at how hard it seemed. Where had my center of gravity gone? What's my problem?
As I was stepping off that's when it happened. That board went flying out from under my right foot while I landed solidly on my huge butt. Oh-my-wrist!!! I have yet to break a bone and my left wrist was hurting like a mo-fo. I just smiled. I didn't want my daughter to be nervous. I sat on the ground awhile trying to get my bearings. Did I break my stupid wrist? Geez!
That night I iced my wrist, which was mobile, and took loads of ibuprofen. The next day I went to the ER and was asked how this happened. And that's when I got the look.
Mean! Mean nurse! Don't judge me! I feel 26, don't you understand?
Needless to say, the skateboard and I haven't crossed paths again. However, I'm not going to give up. That's for old people.
How old do you feel in your heart?
