Back and Sun Burnt!

So hey!
We're back from our vacation and I wish I was still there, only in better shape!
We have access to a house that is at a resort, of sorts. There are mansions that people call "cabins". And the owners drive to their "cabins" in what they probably refer to as "jalopies" or, what I know them as, Hummers.
Our family has had the joy of visiting Black Butte Ranch for the past 3 years. It really is a dream.
I have been preparing for a summer trip by doing the usual; exercising, using self-tanning lotion, and making sure the family was stocked up on bathing suits (me especially!) and flip-flops.
So we get to the pool on our first day and I am struck by how the women look. I know that they are mother's because I see young children running to them pool side and calling them "mom". However, they don't look like they actually gave birth to any of these little children! I mean, where's the tummy ladies? Where's the child bearing hips and thighs?!
I was feeling so out of place. I really have been so diligent with my exercises, just trying my best, but there was no way I looked quite like them.
Then I see her. We are in the pool together. She is playing with one of her children, as am I. She and I almost have the same bathing suit on. Her back is to me and I notice that her body shape is the same as mine. Yeah!
I feel relived that I'm not the only mom with a mom-shaped-body!
Then she turns around...
She's 6 months pregnant.
Well, somebody has to look like me! Maybe I'm a role model for a mom that is still too shy and is hiding under her bath towel. I hope.

  1. Your story made me smile ;-) I felt like I was there with you in the pool thinking the same way. Btw, thanks for being the bearer of good news of me being the MBC's Mystery Mom Blogger of the day. I've been so lazy to post lately, my tot drains my energy each day ;-), this news sort of gave me a boost to post tonight, LOL. Thanks!

  2. Welcome back! Glad to hear y'all had a good time!

I need for someone to tell me that I have to wear a swimsuit in public--maybe that will motivate me to get back on the treadmill!

  3. Love your story! You know what? At least you were in the pool playing with your kids! You didn't sit on the side in shorts and a shirt dipping your toes in the pool. I'm sure your kids really appreciated the fact that you were in there with them. ;)

  4. My youngest turned 20 not months... years old today... I am still waiting on the mom body to disappear! Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Thanks for stopping by my ol blog. I have been enjoying reading yours.
I still got the "mom bod"... working out is a goal! I use to suck in the stomach but now I let it all hang out :) or down...

  6. Cute story! I'm sure most of us feel your pain! Glad you're back and had a good time!

  7. Your story made me smile too. I can't even count how many times I have thought the same things.

  8. Ann, I love this post! So cute! I definitely hear you about Moms at the pool and the beach that look like they don't even have one stretch mark. I will have to stop dreaming about another body in my previous life...XO, Clare

  9. All I will say is I live in LA LA land and I just moved from Chicago. These women put me to shame with all their lipo'd butts and implants. I get the impression no one is looking at my jiggly back end, b/c they are fighting their own demons (and are probably pretty darn hungry too boot). I came to terms with the fact that this is who I am...and I enjoy my chocolate! Embrace your beauty!

  10. That's hilarious - sounds like something that would happen to me. I wonder the same about the moms w/ tight abs. My (thin)friend who is getting a tummy tuck (she lost all the weight but has excess skin) says those are the mommies whose tummies barely stuck out. I guess that's what it is. I especially don't understand the women with babies less than 6 months old and they look amazing. So not fair!!!

  11. Hey there, just catching up. I took my girls to the pool today. They've been begging for days. I did see some mom bods. I love my swim skirt. You may think I look thin, but I still like to hide my least thin part - the thighs! So glad to be back on the web.
